Ever seen that South Park episode where everybody start shitting out of their mouths? It is like that but without being required to "eat" stuff with their assholes first.

But seriously it is regurgitation. Kinda like coughing up a hairball but instead of cat hair it is mice bones and such. They simply can't digest the stuff. They still poop like normal but yea, they do this as well depending on what they eat.

I'm not an owl expert so I can't say if they will outright eat shit or not but they aren't known to eat shit to my knowledge.
