personally I love them, they're freaking amazing.

They're not shitty, but very expensive and time consuming.
You need at least two, they require very specialized diets and exotic animal vets.
A lot of work, especially at first when you're learning and establishing a routine. Once you have experience and are able to do the daily maintenance in an efficient way, they are a joy. This is definitely a pet that is worth the effort.
Don't ever give a ferret as a gift. Don't do that for any animal but extra don't do it for ferrets. They require total commitment on the part of the owner.

No one wants a stinky shit weasel dumped on them suddenly. They are a ton of work.
Tell your aunt to get her a ferret nation cage instead. Is about the same price as a ferret, without any of the commitment. Then your GF can decide on whatever the heck she feels like caring for.
