By far my favourite insects (and favourite animal overall). They're like elegant alien warriors. I can only find green and brown kinds where I live but there are so many incredible varieties. Post pics if you have them.

What a fucking badass. That's some anime shit right there. Can it still move okay? I'm not sure how much they use their front legs for mobility but I bet it would be feeling pretty off-balance.

You gotta fuck up for that to happen. Just feed the female well and give it something right before you let the male jump on and it's safe.

Are all in a separate family, Mantoididae. Not really sure what their common names would be, but a Mantis is specifically family Mantidae.
>>
>>2019555
In folkspeak anything belonging to mantodea is refered to as a (praying) mantis anyway. otherwise shit just gets confusing
>>
Which mantis species would I be able to keep in a dorm? I have experience with invertebrates and would like something interesting but also pretty small.
>>
>>2019632
Ghosts are super easy, frequently bred and can be kept in groups.

Other good choices are some Sphodromantis, Hierodula, Tenodera or Miomantis species.

Much like the xenomorph: Beautiful, but nonetheless a horrifying, monstrous murder machine.
>>
I tried to keep a wild one earlier this year, but it had a bad molt and died. What can cause this?

Wrong humidity, stress during molt, not enough space below the mantis, not fed enough, losing grip and falling down, taking too long. There can be many reasons.
