He wasn't hurting that kitten, he found it out in the rain and was taking pics for us and asking for help on how to take care of it. He was basically showing its belly off to show us how much weight it was gaining to make sure he was doing good.

I know the backstory on Dexter, I was one of the first posters in the original thread. The first pics she posted of Dex I said she shouldn't hold the kitten that way. Op said she wouldn't do it again. Op very obviously lied, which is shit. You don't handle a kitten that way.
>>
>>1990387
Very impetuous face.
>>
>>1990431
Oh and also, I told Op that she should get a scale and weigh the kitten every day to make sure he was gaining weight properly. Op flat out told me she wasn't going to do that.
So holding the kitten like that to estimate weight is bullshit.
>>
>>1990436
But that guy isn't Dexter...the cats name is Erebus. And he was asking the Devon breeder for advice and taking the kitten to the vet when needed. I think you're getting the people mixed up, and maybe it's not great to hold a kitten like that, but it wasn't being hurt, and I don't think it's caused mental scarring, he probably just won't like being put on his back when he's older.

Hey thanks a lot for reposting those pictures, man. I was pretty bummed when I looked at my SD card and found my brother had reformatted it. Now I can better remember those first 2-3 weeks when I never got a full night's sleep and scrambled across five different stores to stock up on formula.

Erebus is doing just fine. He generally stays off the counter/table, uses the litterbox just fine, is pretty hyper (and kinda aggressive) at play but knows to lie down and leave my scratched-up hands alone when I'm eating/sleeping. He loves hoarding pop bottle lids in my shoes.

Other than chew toys, what should I be doing/implementing so my kitten doesn't teeth on my flesh or other's? Sometimes he'll look right at his chew toy, then my hand, back at the toy, and then pounce my hand. I am pretty good with not using my hands as acceptable toys, but his previous owners were probably not since most people aren't. He's 4 months old btw.

So I got a new 6 years old cat from the shelter, in a new apartment where no other animal resides. The cat has apparently not had too good a life: stray cat, had worms, bad teeth, a ripped eye, dehydrated, you get the picture. Anyway the shelter made kitty all better and did the whole medical shebang.

I picked him up and had him stay in the bathroom to monitor his behavior since it's the only closed room I have that's not fully carpeted. He's been doing fine, lets me get near and pet him (he enjoys that quite a bit, ramming into me pretty hard for more petting) and has been eating his food, using the litter properly and all that. He was on meds until today because of infections and still on wet food for another 2 days because of the teeth problems.

There's one thing though, I now leave the door open for him to explore the apartment when I'm there, but he will not come out, and stays in his carrier in the bathroom the whole time. I've taken him out of the bathroom to sit on me, but when he gets off after a while, he runs right back to the bathroom. Additionally, he hisses at me every single time I go check on him, but doesn't seem aggressive out of this, and lets me pet him just the same as usual along with the headbutting. He'll even sometimes be doing both the hissing while trying to be petted harder.

What could be causing this? How can I make him come out of the bathroom and not be so scared of everything including myself? I've had cats before and I'm really confused on this one. Have a picture of the guy for your troubles.

Just leave the door open and just let him get slowly used to everything. As you've said, he's had a bad life, so that bathroom looks pretty fucking amazing to him. Give it time.

Pierced cornea - What are the odds?

I have a rather heartbreaking situation here. I'm an owner of a soon to be 16 year old female cat (her 16th birthday will be Dec. 8th). She's blind, from both eyes. Has been for the past 2 years now. The reason why I didn't put her to sleep back then is that she wasn't in any pain when the blindness occurred, and she adapted to the situation very well. Since we're not living in a city, she's even been able to continue to go outdoors, only this time under my strict, personal supervision. When she walks around the yard, I've been looking after her to see to it that she doesn't move too far, or get into any sort of trouble.

Only last week, something bad ultimately happened. She somehow managed to poke her left eye into something sharp, and the eye was pierced. The wound is a small dot in the cornea, under the lower eyelid, when my veterinarian found it and showed it to me. It leaks clear ocular fluid from time to time, and before our prompt vet visit, it was extremely painful for her.

The vet had her on painkillers, eyedrops and antibiotics for now. The pain has subsided since, thanks to the drugs. She pretty much can't feel the eye anymore, altough some fluid leaks still occur and she can feel that something's coming out. The vet informed me that removing the eye surgically would've been our best option, but is no longer recommended for my cat due to her high age of nearly 16 years.

(Cont'd.)
>>
>>1992197
(Cont'd.)

She's now on a 2 months grace period. The vet informed me that if during this time the injured eye does not get better, if it continues to be painful after the meds are dropped, the vet will have no choice but to recommend putting my little miss to sleep. Altough it breaks my heart to even think about it, I ultimately agreed to this deal, since the surgery, which is not even recommended anymore, would be costly and at most would only offer her maybe few more years, before her age would catch up with her anyway. And at this point she's fully blind anyway, so there's no guarantee that I could ensure a good quality of life. Not if her pains can't be controlled/eliminated.

So basically, I'd like to ask, given these circumstances, what are her odds? What are the chances that the hole in her eye would heal up and she'd stop hurting? If things go the way they're predicted, she'll have one more Christmas with us, and that's it. Then it's permanent nap time for her. Is this truly Game Over for her?
>>
>>1992170
Just a stimulus overload. It'll be at least a year till you see reformed personality changr. But it'll get better in general in a few weeks. Just establish consistent routine and don't make him the center of attention to often.

Regarding impending euthanasia, you may want to ask for a second opinion. Surgery on a 16-year-old cat is certainly risky, but if the alternative is The Big Sleep, I'm surprised to hear your vet isn't at least willing to try. I've known both blind cats and animals with amputated eyes or even limbs that still had a fine quality of life, but this would be dependent on her overall health.

I really have no idea re: probabilities of healing. Best you can do is see how it goes. Sorry, man. 16 years isn't a bad run at all, especially for what sounds like an at least partially-outdoor cat. It's a tough call to make... but if I was in your shoes I'd probably say goodbye too.
>>
>>1992255
I heard that it fucks up their undercoat. Don't know if that's at all true, though...
>>
>>1992271
Oh? I've never had any problems. I mean, it should definitely be used in moderation, not on the daily, and with a light hand. I've never owned a longhaired cat either, so I can't attest to its efficacy there. Still, definitely works on DSH.

None of it is your fault, the poor guy has had a rough time no doubt he'll take a long time to adjust to his new life. Just try building up his comfort levels. Rule of thumb is that cats really don't like change and leaving the bathroom would be a change to him. The other anons who responded also give good tips.
>>
>>1992290
handsome guy right there, looks like he has a really nice coat from what I see
>>
>>1992264
Thanks. She's been a good companion, and we've really bonded. I started taking care of her when she was just 3 weeks old, and she was fully given to me at week 10. We've been inseparable since.

She's been very much the outdoors type all her life, and an active hunter all the way up to going blind. I've been taking very good care of her, medical stuff and everything, so it didn't surprise me that she made it all this way. I was frankly hoping she'd make it to 20. I was ready and willing to put in the work.

A second opinion is probably a no-go, since our vet is the only one within a 100 mile radius. We had another guy, but he retired 2 years ago, and he didn't have the equipment to perform eye examinations anyway.

I guess I'll just concentrate on making her remaining time here as tolerable as possible, dedicate this Christmas to her. But Goddamn this sucks. I've been crying in secret, hoping for a miracle.

Hey /an/, is it worth it to get insurance plans for cats?
For context, my young cat is sick and I'm planning on bringing him to the vet tomorrow. I'm mentally preparing myself to get slapped with heavy bills.

No.
The insurance won't pay you back anything if something bad happens. It's better to save money for the vet.

Is it okay to play with your cat (growing kitten) with your hands? He seems smart enough to not scratch or bite hard.

Not unless you're willing to risk him turning into a biter. Playing with your hands teaches kittens that fingers are playthings and biting is acceptable behavior.

And this is my queen, Rose. She's a faggot
>>
I'm getting a cat tomorrow.

It will be Caturday.

And I will have a cat.

That is all for now. Proceed.
>>
My cat refuses to even go onto her bed anymore. She slept on it all the time as a kitten but now would rather sleep on top of a wardrobe, in a tiny box and pretty much anywhere else. I've washed the bed, picked bits off it and cleaned it as best as I can. Is it normal for cats to grow out of stuff like that?
>>
>>1993561
Is this is your first cat?

They literally do whatever the fuck they want. Apparently it wants to sleep somewhere else. You can bet that's going to change. She might even go back to the bed. Throw a box on the floor. She'll probably end up sleeping in that for a month. So yeah, totally normal.
>>
>>1993561
Cats are odd and the two spots you mentioned and prime cat sleeping points, cats love high places and confined places like boxes it makes them feel safe. I would not worry, they are random and it is normal.

My cat recently has decided the dog is now her bed.

So he's gotten a bit better at exploring lately, but the weirdest problem remains. He's always hissing at me, for no particular reason, sometimes even while rubbing on my legs at the very same time. Is my cat just socially retarded?

He's also taken to being very vocal when I leave the door open, sometimes being much too loud in the wee hours of the morning or late at night. How do I teach him to be more quiet?

I'll put up more pictures in the morning.
>>
>>1993561
You have to understand, cats are PASSIONATE about sleeping. It isn't just something they do, it's a way of life. They like to mix it up, sleep in new places, try new things. In a couple months she'll probably move on and find some new favorite spots, and sooner or later she'll come back to her bed.
>>
>>1993558
It's Caturday

I got a cat

and another cat

I now have two cats when before I had none

CATS!
>>
>>1993641
Sounds like he's still just pretty freaked out and doesn't know what to do with himself. I've interacted with cats at my shelter that solicit human contact and obviously are not aggressive but still just hiss or growl randomly. It's kinda like they can't decide whether to be frightened of their environment or happy to get attention. It sounds like you're making progress, though, which is good.

Give him time, be patient, go slow, keep doing what you're doing. He's probably had a lot of trauma and it's turned him into a slow adjuster (and some cats are just naturally less adaptable, who knows). I've known cats that took weeks or months to really settle into a new environment but were fine after that. I'm sure the vocalizing is annoying but just remember it's a result of what he's gone through and not because something is wrong with you or him.

Playing talk radio or classical music quietly at night may help keep him quieter. Many animals find it comforting. Good luck anon.

Found a couple of feral kittens in my yard. Is a cardboard box drop trap going to work? I'm concerned it's both too scary and light for the job
>>
How do you track/have any chance of finding a cat?
Mine went missing Saturday after being spooked by neighbourhood fireworks outside, just miss her ;_;
>>
>>1996214
call the police and local shelters. put an add in the paper, look up local pet pages on facebook, set out food and water in case it comes back, try anything.
>>
>>1994888
It could, I've caught wild rabbits that way (added string to trigger the fall), but it is not likely to work. They can sense the box mover before it falls, in the case of using a string they can see the string move before you can pull the stick away and get the box to fall. And wild animals are very careful about treading cautiously, and often wont knock the stick over themselves. On top of that, you are hoping a cat will walk into a weird thing that is obviously small and closed off, and then not being able to turn around and run out if they did sense the trap being triggered.

I'd recommend a live trap. They are maybe $30 but you can also call up vets, rescues, shelters, TNR organizations, animal control etc if they will let you borrow one for free. Live traps are easy to decorate to look natural, are much longer so they can't easily get out once the trap is triggered, and it's a lot harder for them to get out too. The trap has a very sensitive pressure plate that cats usually have to step on to continue through the trap.

I would say to put this trap in a quiet place where you see the kittens often, or near where they are. If possible make sure the trap isn't out in the open, because wild cats don't like to wander where there isn't a lot of places to run and hide to. Cover the trap with leaves and twigs to make it look like part of everything else. The bait should be some sort of cat food, and places all the way at the very end of the trap or right after the pressure plate on the trap. Some cats will be too skittish to walk all the way to the end of the trap. It is very important to check the trap every single day, and if you can't check the trap daily, either bring it back home or trigger it to make sure animals can't get in on the days where you know you won't be able to check them for the next day or however long it will be.
>>
>>1996260
>>1994888

If you catch something unsavory, call Animal Control and they will handle it for you. If you explain the situation they may just release the animal back into your neighborhood. Sometimes they are required to take it elsewhere or euthanize it, in which case they may have to take the trap. Just make sure you write your name on it and explain you want it back because ACO can be air-headed. In the case they don't want to come (Sometimes ACO sucks) then I'd suggest throwing a tarp over the trap (this works well for skunks too), transport it to where ever you want the animal to be, and carefully lift a small portion of the tarp just enough to open the door. Just make sure the door is pointing where you want the animal to run, and not towards you. You may want to where some thick work gloves.

As for the kittens themselves, how old are they? Do you know what you are going to do with them? If they are under 8 weeks, they *may* be able to be rehabilitated into something that resembles a domestic animal, but it is slim for them to become cuddly kittens if they are older and true ferals (meaning they were born outside and have no human contact besides seeing them). Many shelters and rescues do not take in feral cats, so if I were you I would call them before trapping them to see if they will take the kittens. If you wanted to keep them or adopt them out yourself, just keep in mind that ferals are not affectionate, they are very territorial and may not do well with other animals or cats, they would need to be indoor-only because they may never come back inside once let out. and are much more affected by strangers and noises. Feral cats sometimes eliminate outside of the litter box, may attack people for 'seemingly' no reason, can be very destructive in the house, and on top of that they sometimes will not even want to be touched by the end of the day. Just potential challenges if you did want to re-home them.

If you still want to catch the cats, but no one will take them, I would suggest to do a TNR (in fact I highly recommend fixing them before you try to re-home them also; not only is getting vetted a huge plus for people looking to buy cats, but it's also good to make sure they have been fixed and first round of shots because most people will not do this, and then more cats are created or the cats get fatally ill). See if there is a TNR in your area that will accept your cats; TNRs do have limits on what they can do, and will limit their reach to specific towns and counties. Sometimes TNRs will only do neuters, and not spays, and sometimes it will not be free but only low-cost. ONLY use TNR if you want the cats to be returned to the wild. Many people abuse TNR to fix their pet cats, and then the groups don't have the time or money to get to good Samaritans actually trying to fix ferals to keep population down and keep more animals from suffering. TNR groups will also cut or notch the ears of cats, tattoo them, and will sometimes release the animal themselves in a feral friendly area, so you may be taking a big gamble to use TNR on cats you want to keep.

If you want to keep the cats, or there are no TNR services near you, your other option is to get the animals vetted yourself. Vets will often not do free spays and neuters, and usually not low cost, either. They will get all of their shots and get fixed at the vet, however. Some organizations will do low cost or maybe even free fixing of cats, but restrictions may apply, like proof of how much money you make in a year or proof of some kind of welfare or disability assistance. Again, you'd have to do your own research to find out more.

Now lets say you can't do any of the above, I would honestly say euthanasia is the kindest option. You wouldn't believe the condition I've seen some feral cats live in, they are fucking horrendous. At least with euthanasia they will die quickly and quietly.
>>
Is food grade diatomaceous earth the best option if fleas have set into your carpets aside from fumigators/new carpets? I've tried tablets for my little one previously and while they kept them off her for a while, it doesn't really have the desired effect when they are all in the carpets.
>>
>>1996277
I tried all sorts of methods using that earth, it did not help me at all
Maybe you'd have better luck though

Otherwise what I did was get that greasy crap that you put on the cats neck (or yeah that tablet you mentioned works too), vacuumed the carpets daily, set a lamp "trap" (set a lamp over a bowl of soapy water on the floor and leave it on over night, they're attracted to the light and just fuck themselves), washed all the sheets and places my cats lay, etc

I've heard laying down salt on the carpets/baseboards can dry out the eggs but I dunno how effective that really is

It's pretty common for orange cats to have pigment spotting on their gums, nose, and/or eyelids. It's called lentigo simplex and is totally harmless. Think of it as kitty freckles.

I've pretty much done everything but tear the carpets out and fumigate. I've covered everywhere in flea power, different collars and checked they didn't do harm to her, some spray that worked for a while. I just wish my friend had properly checked her for fleas before giving the cat to me. I don't mind being bitten a few times but I'm worried about my cats health because it can't be that good. I'll try the tablets alongside the food grade and the light trap and just wash fucking everything all the way up to getting some new curtains.

1 year ago he suffered from cereblar ictus, since then he recovered but had periodic episodes of spasm attacks probably related to some sort of permanent brain damage he suffered, after each attack he would quickly rise up and go on his merry way like nothing happened, he was strong as fuck, last night however, he had 4 consecutive attacks, the last of which locked him in what seemed like a permanent state of this shit, he would have spasms and hiss at every spasm forever in rhythmic way, in the end he died of exhaustion, I was there all the time watching over him and trying to calm him down, even had some pills to calm him but my father suggested to not mess with him anymore because after such an attack he would probably come back even more demented.

We couldn't even put him down due to money issues so we just stayed there with him as he exhaled his last breaths...god I'm so sorry for him, I wouldn't wish an end like that to ANYONE...I guess I can find solace in knowing he isn't suffering anymore.

Thank you for the thorough response. I called the city TNR and got some traps. Caught one of the two on Monday but have not seen the other since then. The one we caught is a sweetheart, about 8 weeks old, and has let us bathe, de-flea, pet, and hold her. I taught her to use a box and today she's figured out how to come when called. Taking her to the vet for shots and checkup tomorrow.

I'm worried about her sibling though. No sightings in days. I've got a trap out for him and went around the block today asking neighbors. Hopefully he turns up soon. He was the one to alert us to his sibling's presence and coaxed her into eating the food we left them...

Two questions. First of all, does anyone have any idea what breeds my cat may be? I know she's not purebred or anything, but I would really like to know what she might be. This is relevant because I'm allergic to cats, and we adopted her in the hopes that I wouldn't react to her. Over the past two days though it's become unbearable for me to be around her.

My sister told me she might be descended from a Russian Blue, which is a breed that tends to cause less severe allergic reactions, but she's only a few months old and already I can't spend that much time around her.

Now for the other problem. This is the first time I've ever owned a pet more intelligent than a fish. We originally got the pet because I wanted one (I wanted a dog, but my parents irrationally fear dogs and I can't afford to move out yet). However, I've found that my cat doesn't really want to give me company. Also she is biting and scratching a lot - not with the intent to cause harm, but unless she's tired I can't touch her without her thinking my fingers are a toy.

She just doesn't seem to respond at all when I call her (she's not deaf) and doesn't really seem to care about me unless I'm playing with her with a fishing pole toy. I originally wanted a pet because I wanted the experience of having a living thing that wasn't my parents actually care about me, but I just am not finding that here. Am I missing something, or is this just how cats are?

Doesn't look like a Russian Blue, or any other breed. Sorry anon, but almost every cat isn't a recognizable breed because the gene pools are so muddled.

It's weird she doesn't respond at all. Cats can be like that though. Sounds like a combo of an antisocial cat and simply her being a kitten.

If you are badly allergic to her (assuming you've talked to your doctor about allergy meds) then you shouldn't keep this cat.
>>
>>2003807
About the only way I can get her to come to me is when I jingle one of her toys, and sometimes she won't even come then. I can call to her all day and she'll ignore me.

In some weird way I've found myself liking her. However, it's frustrating to not have that feeling returned at all. It feels like she doesn't care about me in the least. She seems to like my dad, but she doesn't seem to care about me at all.

This is pretty much the opposite of what I wanted in a pet. I was led to believe that a pet would give me the experience of another living thing actually desiring my presence... but I just haven't felt that at all. If anything it's worsening my depression because I can't understand why my cat is ignoring me.
>>
>>2003798

No breed. Like most cats, she likely doesn't even have any recognisable breeds in her recent ancestry. She's cute though.

Unfortunately, it's difficult to say whether her behaviour is just her personality or if it's because she's young. Younger cats are much more energetic and independent, and yes, they can bite and scratch a lot in play. She may settle down with age and become more affectionate and cuddly, but she may remain aloof. It's difficult to say- I'm afraid this is no good coming so late, but /an/ usually recommends adopting an adult cat if you want to know their personality, and particularly looking at a cat that's at least a few years old if you want a snuggly lap-cat. Hopefully she will settle down though, it's normal for cats to do so over the first couple of years of their life.

Don't planes have accommodations for animals like pets? I mean you're not just talking about shoving her in a bag and hoping they don't notice, right?
>>
>>2003798
>First of all, does anyone have any idea what breeds my cat may be? I know she's not purebred or anything, but I would really like to know what she might be.
She's a cat. no more or less.
>Am I missing something, or is this just how cats are?
you don't feed her and given that you don't want to play and also avoid her in general there's really no reason she'd like you.
>>
Anyone else can't stand the sound of their cat licking themselves? just that little niggling sound drives me up the fucking wall. I try and endure it until finally I erupt into a rage screaming at my cat to get out of my room. I feel bad about it, but I looked it up and apparently there's a disorder called misophonia that sounds a lot like this.
>>
>>2003907
I've got misophonia for people eating/gulping loudly. I can't stand that. I have to leave the room before I punch somebody.
>>
>>2003906
>you don't feed her and given that you don't want to play and also avoid her in general there's really no reason she'd like you.
Lots of projection going on here.
>>
What are the requirements you should meet before getting a cat?
I'm thinking of adopting an older/adult cat.
Never had a cat before.
I live in a pretty small apartment (37 square meters), alone.

Yeah, of course they do. Most airlines have a temperature controlled section in cargo for transporting pet. I mean, she's going to be in a fucking large kennel. Not in a tiny soft hand-carrier.

I just don't know what to line it with (shredded paper? those training pads for dogs? just place a disposable litterbox in it?) or what's a good brand of bowl that'll prevent food and water from spilling all over her.
>>

i had a pretty decent reply almost typed out, just looking it over when my cat decided it was time to walk on the keyboard, the bitch.

you are being immature and irresponsible. a cat does not exist for your amusement, and pet ownership is not a selfish act, but an altruistic one (cat ownership in particular). a cat will almost never come when called -- they lack the basic innate desire to please that dogs have and will 9 times out of 10 consider whatever they are doing to be more important than what you want them to be doing, especially if they know that you calling them is followed shortly thereafter by unwanted, forced affections. which brings me to my next point: IF THE CAT IS NOT RECIPROCATING, DO NOT FORCE CONTACT. all you are doing if you try to keep holding the cat or pick her up when she's protesting, pet her when she doesn't want to, etc. is teaching her that humans do shit that pisses her off and that if she stays away she will never be accosted when attention is undesired.

go back to ground zero with your cat. completely ignore her except to feed. what you do is when she comes up and inspects you (as she 100% will, cats are curious creatures), you try giving her a quick pet. longer if she tolerates it, shorter if not. if she won't let you pet her, bust out the toys so she associates you with fun things WHEN DESIRED. when you look at her, do it with hooded eyes and blink slowly so she knows you're not a threat. watch her body language and learn about it. stop being a retard, cats are not aliens -- they are just prickly creatures who are anal retentive about protocol and courtesy.

>About the only way I can get her to come to me is when I jingle one of her toys

too long, con't
>>
>>2004025

you're just looking at this whole thing wrong. the goal isn't to get her to "come to you," it's for her to become comfortable with you and make friends with her no matter what that actually means. some cats will be happy on your lap, some will be happy at your feet, some will be happy just to be in the same room. the biggest thing is that you have to know the protocol. some people get easy cats who they can treat however they feel like and the cat's very forgiving, some people get more classically feline cats (you have one, i have one as well) which are more reserved and flighty. it's just how it is, there is a big variance in feline personality as with in humans.

there's no magic bullet, but her personality can and will change dramatically over the course of her life. girl cats in particular tend to be a little more standoffish than males, but i sincerely believe it's possible to create a relationship with any cat with enough effort. unlike dogs, however, it's all about approaching the cat on its own terms and making at least a token effort to understand their psychology and how they're processing everything it is experiencing.

you need to start reading about cats instead of asking shit on 4chan because if you don't start fostering your own passion for learning about and interacting with your cat, it's never going to work out.
>>
>>2004029

also your cat doesn't have a drop of russian blue in her. never believe anyone who says anything like this, they are either retarded or misleading you. a complete moggie can look like a russian blue, but the only thing that makes a russian blue is papers, and the chances of some breeder's prized russian blue stock getting out or being knocked up by a neighborhood tom are incredibly low
>>

I'd say just make sure you can afford vet bills in case it gets sick, a litter box, some toys maybe, that sort of thing

cats aren't really a lot of work compared to some other pets
>>
>>2004048
Should I get pet insurance or is that a scam?
>>
>>2000870

You ignore it. Toilet time is private time, even if the big soap-smelling human happens to walk by.

Do not pet it. How would you have liked if your mom had come into the toilet when you were 7 years old and said "gooood jaaahp goooood jaaaaahp" ?

I know that feel. Back in august we had to put down our cat. He was such an amazing cat. I buried him in dad's garden, it was strangely cathartic to bury him myself.

It get's better.
>>
>>2004058
good question

I've never gotten it myself, every cat I've had either died of old age or had to be put down because it had something really bad they couldn't fix like cancer

but I can see it being useful if your cat ends up needing some expensive surgery down the line
>>
cats love those laser toys any reason why? You think they'd get bored of chasing after nothing.
>>
Quick question, what litters do you use? I've heard about Tidy Cats Lightweight killing and was wondering if a regular clumping litter would cause any health issues.
>>
>>2004479
I just had to put my cat down yesterday. He was 16. I've been crying all day and nite.
>>
>>2004668
not bored but frustrated
You have to finish laser chase with something they can physically catch
>>

>>2003817
Holy shit, you are the BIGGEST faggot. Why would you decide that a cat was the pet you wanted when you obviously know nothing about them? If you wanted a pet that would love you unconditionally, why not just get a dog? God, you're so retarded it hurts

How long do kittens need to stay with mum

A friend had a cat that had babies and keeps finding conflicting info. Babies are 5 weeks now and most of them are eating food. I know for a fact that 5 weeks is too soon to be taken from mom and dont want her to do it because she got bad info

I live with my parents, and they recently adopted a kitten we found in the backyard. We have a huge feral population, but this kitten was friendly.

The kitten's sweet, but is not reacting to any attempts to train. She'll jump up on the table, we'll say "no" and put her down, this goes on and on until we close her in a bedroom. She bites our hands, we move our hands away, she goes for them again even if we try to distract her with a toy. She reaches into the rabbit's pen and pulls his hay, poop, and whatever fresh foods we put in out. Attacks my curtains, scratches the furniture (despite us having, no joke, 8+ scratching pads and posts).

I keep trying to gently dissuade her from doing these things, and I've been consistent, but she doesn't seem to make any progress at all and is driving me fucking batshit. I have a cat of my own, and these methods worked well on her. Is there a particular method that works better on kittens? I've never had a cat this young before. Got her at 10 weeks, she's almost 16 weeks now.

Shit, I forgot about the image flipping on mobile devices. My bad.
>>

4 months is still really young and the cat is restless probably.

Try stopping her BEFORE she does these actions (which is going to require damn near constant surveillance of her).

If you see her starting to pose to jump on the table, put your hand in front of her face and say NO. Repeat until she finds something else to do. Pretty much do that with everything else combined with a lot of play. My cat goes crazy for rolled up paper balls, and hates the squirt bottle, which is also good if you can't get to the cat on time. If the cat starts to walk over to furniture, calmly walk over to her and pick her up and place her on a scratching pad. If she uses any of the scratchers, love on her or give her treats. Could also try a cardboard scratcher.

heres my old fart, buster.

i dont know how to handle him, he's probably 16 or 17 years old but hes still very spry. he just always has knots in his fur and i dont think he licks himself much anymore, so he has a bunch of white flakes on him that i think is dandruff.

he pitches a fit just trimming his nails, its a 2 person job. we cant take him into a groomer because hes too old to sedate him, and the vet gave us pills but they weren't effective.

hes about 15 pounds.
>>
>>2006101
8 weeks minimum.

>>2006121
>he just always has knots in his fur
This goes for most medium/longhaired cats that aren't brushed or combed regularly.

>he has a bunch of white flakes on him that i think is dandruff.
Common in older and/or overweight cats, since they often become too painful or fat to reach all the way around and groom their rear ends. It's not dangerous or harmful to him, but regular brushing would also help with that.

>I loosely tied a strand of yarn around around my cat's neck with a little bow (like tying your shoes)
>tfw I see her walking around a day later with it still around her neck.

It is loose enough that she could get it off if she really hated it, but she hasn't and it's adorable.

I don't like collars on cats, I think they're way too restricting, but I do think stuff like that looks cute.

Alright so I got these two literal fat cats.
13 pounds and 17 pounds last time we went to the vet.
Yeah yeah I know, I'm horrible, etc.
Most cat trees I've found have small platforms and look like they'll break if they have too much weight on them.
Are there specialty fat cat trees?
Am I just not looking in the right places?
>>
>>2009459
If I were you, I would look for a cat tree that has a sturdy, heavy bottom.

Also, read on the box if there's a weight limit. Usually smaller cat trees have a more substantial weight limit.

Of course (to get this out of the way), put your cats on a fucking diet.

He looks amazing. How is that possible? A cat x australian cattle dog?
>>
>>1990236
Holy fuck at first glance i thought its tail was its other leg and wondered why it had a claw for nipples.
>>
I sleep with my cat. Some nights, he'll back up into my face and almost sit on it. He never does that when I'm awake. He knows he can touch me and I'll wake up and open up the covers for him to get under. It's really annoying because it's a very light touch and it startles me awake and as a reaction I push him roughly away. Is he just being a jerk?
