Bring it up. Tell him you know he loves kids, but that he might be a little too enthusiastic in showing it, so people might get the wrong idea.

If he doesn't respond to that, keep a close eye on him, from the way I read it this sounds like a problem with inhibition and impulse control. Those are dangerous traits to have as a pedo, because you can't ever act on those urges.
