I'm sleeping in my car tonight. I'm supposed to move into an apartment

I'm sleeping in my car tonight. I'm supposed to move into an apartment tomorrow. I plan on parking in a big box store parking lot and passing out before heading out the next morning. I'm in a big city.

What are some tips for dealing with cops, criminals and store owners?

Walmart parking lot is the friendliest, you shouldn't be bothered at all.

If the vehicle looks suspicious, or you do cops might talk to you and see what you're up to, but that's it.

If you find a walmart, they all have parking lot security over night, cameras all over, and it's the most popular grounds for semi's to sleep on the road for cheap.

My car has out-of-state license plates.

Have you slept in your car overnight before?

Yeah. Out of state makes it even better, they'll just think you're travelling.

I slept in Walmart parking lots a lot when I was doing a road trip. Denny's too, but I was a customer first, then went out to the car and went to bed. It was a truck stop type of Denny's though.

Good point. Did you only stay in Walmart Super Center parking lots? Or did you go to Neighborhood Market stores as well?

I only stayed at the super centers, the Neighborhood Markets are few and far from what I can tell, whereas most Walmarts are right near the highways.

Gotcha. I'm hoping to stay in the city. There's a Target a few miles from my apartment. It's closed from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. Will that work?

What's the worst that can happen? You get asked to leave? Just try it out.

I saw some cops there the other night a few hours before closing time.

Fucking devils advocate over here, jeez man. Like I said, they'll ask you to leave if it's a problem.

Yeah and all they do is literally say "Yo wake the fuck up, go away" because they don't want to have to waste any more time than that with somebody sleeping in their car.

worst case scenario you get told to fuck off a few times and have a shit night of sleep.

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. I'm also considering using a Sports Authority parking lot because they're going out of business and likely won't care.

I went to a commuter lounge outside the Bronx to sleep in my car
