I have lots of books that have been sitting on the shelves in my basement for years now. I want to get rid of them.
Do you guys know of any major American charities that I could give my books to? Alternatively, do you know if libraries take book donations?
Also, some of them are college textbooks, many of which have been made obsolete by new editions put out by their publishing companies. What should I do with those? I don't have the heart to throw them out, but they're taking up way too much space in my house.

It's good to clean house. Pack them all up in small boxes so that they are easy to sort and see what they are. Got to the nearest used bookstore, see what they'll take for cash or for store credit. Take the rest to a thrift shop, you'll be donating them to charity.
Get a clean start. Yes, books should be treated with respect. But you can't just hang onto them forever, that's menally ill.
The really popular chain, Half Price Books, will take any books you give them and pay you for it. As for actual charities, you can just search that up since there's so many.
