As an American, how do I speak Russian without sounding like a cunt? Whatever I say just doesn't sound natural.

Like any skill, it takes practice, practice and more practice. If you can, talk to Russian speakers and ask for their help in pronouncing difficult words or saying the correct phrases--every language has its own idiosyncrasies. You just need some practice and feedback from real Russian speakers. GL!
