Is it possible to be friends with someone who disagrees with you politically? I have a childhood friend and since we've grown up, we've had very different opinions on feminism and what not (they can come off as outright radical sjw sometimes honstly). I don't think they're a bad person and I really want to stay friends but I've had several friends before where we begin to disagree with each other on those fronts and they'd get mad at me and in some cases, even successfully manipulate me into hating myself (I'm obviously not friends with them anymore though). I know the whole "never discuss politics if you want to keep friends" argument but it's impossible not to discuss politics with anyone in this day and age anymore. Pic related, I shared it on facebook and they commented about gender neutrality being good and something about me "stroking my male ego" or something along those lines.

>>
sure, people have all kinds of friends. I would never be friends with anyone I disagree with, but people do it all the time.
>>
>>17268548
I was you a couple of years ago. Even worse. I would pick fights with any sjw I saw, fighting the good fight.

But after some point, you will realize that just like how you are prone to them trying to change your opinions, they are prone to you as well.

So first off, congrats on being a fucking idiot and posting that 4chan shit on facebook. Don't you realize that people on FB don't even get the joke? Plus, of course, its possible to avoid politics.

How do I avoid it? I simply say it. " I don't discuss politics, to be honest" and they will respect you for that. and grow some balls and hold your ground when they try to push you for more.

None of my new friends know my political standing, they don't know if it for trump or for Hillary or for sanders (rip).

TL;DR: don't be a retard, feminism and all these new liberal stuff has become very sensitive. It is as taboo as somebody making fun of Jesus in the medieval. so keep your fucking mouth shut and read 48 laws of power.
>>
In case anyone is wondering, they want to change the line "in all thy sons command" to "in all of us command."
>>
>>17268548
Hey OP. You're that guy that everyone thinks is an absolute tool, but still remains friends with anyway, because other than your dip shit political beliefs, you might actually be okay/funny.

But in all seriousness, you could always murder your friends. It sounds like they want to make people different to themselves, (and, more importantly, different to you) feel comfortable about the world they live in. This of course will be to the detriment of you, and I don't see any option for you other than to buy a glock. Its the only way you can get through to those empathetic faggot types.
>>
Yeah, I have lots of friends that I don't agree with. With some of them, we just don't discuss politics. If they post something on Facebook, I leave it alone. With a few, I actually really enjoy debating and getting into in-depth arguments, because we're capable of disagreeing with each other without taking it personally.

It's very, very important to allow your beliefs to be challenged. You can't just surround yourself with an echo chamber, that's how people turn into extremist nut jobs. Dissent is healthy, the truth should not fear scrutiny, and if you believe something you should know how to explain and defend it.

I've known plenty of people (mostly liberal) who will go fucking ballistic if you disagree with them, call you every name in the book, etc. They're usually the ones who have no idea what the fuck they're talking about, and they use anger to mask their lack of an argument

Not OP, but for fuck's sake, this is the type of thing we're talking about.

I have no problem with trans people, or gay people, or people of different ethnicities. I would NEVER mock someone or treat them as inferior just because they were born differently from me. I think anyone who does that is a fucking asshole.

However, I am very, very reluctant to pass LAWS that make it illegal to be an asshole. I'm not comfortable living in a world where it's a crime to express an opinion, even if it's shitty.

If you understood how the legal system works, you would understand how dangerous it is to set a precedent like this. If you understood history, you would KNOW that even if those laws were set up to PROTECT minorities, the precedent can be used against them just as easily if public opinion shifts. Laws that make it illegal to say "transphobic" things can easily turn into laws like they have in Russia, that make it illegal to make people see "gay propaganda" (being openly gay in public, pretty much, is treated as propaganda)

I want to live in a free country. I want to live in a country where two men are free to suck each other's dicks and move in together. That freedom cannot exist unless others are free to speak out in criticism. Freedom cannot be a one-way street. Either you protect EVERYONE'S freedom, or nobody's freedom is safe.

You're talking about social issues. It is very dangerous to turn them into political issues. Not everything requires government intervention.

Sure it is. My last girlfriend was a far left, pansexual, feminist, but she was also the sweetest girl I ever met. I'm a far right authoritarian, but we dated for a year and a half, and we're still friends. Just don't bring up politics.

Only that I didn't say all right wingers are terrible. By typical I meant right wingers generally want to solve everything with violence, which is an indication for low intelligence.
And I'm not American, so go fuck off with your shitty two party system that makes it abysmally easy for rich people to control the government. No matter what party wins.

>>
>>17268687

I doubt the post you replied to actually believes literally all leftists are scum, but they certainly assume they all are simply by hear they're left-wing.
>>
>>17268679
I just rationally explained why I'm in the right, so replying with my own post didn't prove anything. Except that you are an idiot who can't understand things.

You can't even articulate yourself. Learn English. And it's not my duty to appropriate each of my sentences for mentally handicapped people.

His opinion is the literal definition of being liberal. No, not your definition that you align with SJWs, feminazis and tumblr. The actual definition. Not sure how you thought that guy is on your side except for you probably thinking

OP, if you want a pretty good example of how NOT to carry yourself around people with different opinions, study this thread.

Note how people keep calling each other various insults in an attempt to supplement (or, more likely, compensate for a lack of) a well-formed opinion
>>
>>17268709
And you missed my point again. Typical, generally. And? Yes, I put them in one category, openly so. Because they directly are in a category - "ring wingers".
My point was right wingers usually want to solve everything with violence. Not that they are terrible people. That first poster simply gave the typical underlying mentality of his kind away.
>>
>>17268713

>His opinion is the literal definition of being liberal

No, it isn't. I posted that myself, and I'm a conservative. Just because I'm not a bigot doesn't mean I'm a liberal. The whole point of my post is "I agree with your principles but THIS IS NOT THE JOB OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT."

I believe in equal OPPORTUNITY, and I believe in freedom and liberty, and anyone that's a real conservative supports these values.

This new form of liberalism is just ass-backwards. You think you're supporting and protecting minorities, but what you're really doing is trying to give the government a dangerous amount of power over social disagreements. You're blind if you think it won't backfire on you.
>>
>>17268723
Yeah, I'm sure that you are "just tired" because every of your posts were just pure idiocy. There are more wealthy countries than the US by the way. And they are also safer at the same time.
Have fun being heavily indebted just for going to college alone or being financially ruined because you broke a limb but weren't insured.
Do Americans even realize how they are publicly confirming stereotypes with posts like this?
No, by now it's actually a fact that Americans are idiots on average.

>>
>>17268731
My only problem is you're using "typically" "generally" and "usually" to bulk the enterity into one, easily written off category. When, in reality, it's only the loudest and the most glaring that display the traits you're describing. Most right-wingers (in fact, most people in general) are calm and rational, as long as you treat their opinion with respect and don't hurl insults at them and bulk them in with the idiots (who are the minority) in an attempt to assert your opinion.
>>
>>17268751
This makes me want to get a cheeseburger now
>>
>>17268733
First off, the world isn't black and white so your opinions can be a mix of different ideologies. You can still call yourself overall a conservative but what you described earlier is still a liberal belief.
Second, what your personal definition of real conservative is, is worthless. I would also exclude every retard that calls himself liberal if he makes a bad name for us (many nowadays do). But it doesn't work that way.
And finally, yeah I agree with your last statement. Because of your point, but also because then we wouldn't treat everyone equal and handling minorities with kid gloves just hinders them from becoming just as capable and strong citizens like the rest.

>>
>>17268756
Wow, that really reminds me of how right wingers usually pretend that minorities behave all the same and when you tell them the argument you just made, they will dismiss it by calling you a "nigger lover". Guess you will use whatever logic that plays into your hands in the moment.
>>
>>17268769

I think you're actually a conservative and you just don't know what the word means

Hint: It doesn't mean "I agree with the social values of the Republican Party"
>>
>>17268797
I think traditions are an idiot thing, culture can and should change, new ideas should be embraced and tried and I don't care about ethnic identities. So no, I'm not a conservative. But you think the only liberalism that exists is this retarded "neo progressiveness" that's openly racist and sexist, just in favor of minorities.
>>
>>17268791
What are you even taking about? I'm never said i'm a right winger, and even if I was, you're creating a straw man and projecting a position on to me.

Wait what part of the anthem isn't gender neutral?

Is it only the french version? Isn't that version all weird and religious too?

Yes. Learn to have friendly disagreements. Both of you. Once you become an adult, every relationship you ever make is out of convenience.

I've been friends with people I don't agree politically with. In my liberal state it would be hard not to. I don't bring up politics and if the topic comes up I either don't comment or change the subject.

I don't think I could be in a relationship with someone if they had radically different views than me though.
>>
i'm a leftist, not even white

have lots of nazi/fascist friends

i'm just not autistic enough to let politics dictate my friends, it's like letting opinions on sports dictate your friends

I literally just don't bring up politics around them, although they (obnoxiously) do it all the time, where they act exactly like the people they talk shit about (hardcore SJWs)

>>
>>17268548
You don't need to agree on things just don't be a dick about it, and the same goes for them. You can still have arguments with people and still remain friends. When has it become a condition to agree with everything someone says to be their friend?

I'm a neoconservative with libertarian social leaning and neoimperialistic foreign policy views. I'm also a devout eastern Catholic.
Out of my group of friends that I speak to daily there's a communist animist, a Scandinavian socialist atheist, a near anarchistic libertarian muslim, a conservative agnostic, and a by the books Republican nondenominational protestant.

I think it should also be noted that any religous context isn't in the french version. Every day in elementary and middle school (and mondays in highschool) we'd have to stand for O Canada. They got away with the god part by having it be in both french and english. The french part just plays when the god part is brought up

>>17268609

I'm the anon you're replying to. I pretty much agree with you. I'm pretty much a raging faggot lefty SJW, but there's definitely a regressive left who want to moralise and are against the idea of free speech. They have set ideas about social issues, but their approach to them is the same moralistic bullshit as the worst of the communitarian conservatives, and they're equally dogmatic.

>>17268615
>I don't know why but that actually makes me feel pretty good despite this post being obvious bait

It was somewhat b8ish, but also kind of sincere. And it isn't a bad thing. If people are friends with you despite your political beliefs, then you're obviously an okay person. Bros and sisters should be friends regardless of their political beliefs if they get along, that's why you should stay friends with your friends.
