First cousins are pretty safe as far as genetics go. The risk of inbreeding-related defects is pretty minimal unless you do it generation after generation.
I'd suggest you think about it from a different angle: are you sure you are ready? 23 is a pretty young age to get married. You don't really know about your future plans yet.

- Marriage to a cousin in Aus and UK is legal. We were married in the UK and had it all recognised in Aus too.
- First cousin defects are something like 3% greater chance than non related. Second cousin chance is higher.
- Social acceptance is totally down to culture. Most of our in culture friends knew about it. Pretty much no one outside that knew about it.
