does anyone else self-insert when consuming media? I like to imagine myself being as badass as my musical heroes, or Darth Vader, and other fictional characters.

Everyone does to some extent, you're not unique.
I used too, especially when I was younger and just got into anime. I ended up just watching to see the main male character get the bitches and wreck shit and not seeing the actual merits of the work, so I kicked that habit.

This is what most producers of media are aiming for. That's why so many comics, games and movies are basically a power fantasy.

and why most protaganists in books/ film other media are so bland, so every twat who goes and purchases a copy can easily insert themselves into the story
I could go into detail about my elaborate self-insert that I sometimes imagine in just about any setting. I do wish there was something I could actually use him for, like some PnP RPG that caters to hilariously OP characters or something.
