As someone who works retail, I can say that for the most part, customers are only shit to you if you're shit to them.

I've worked a bunch of retail jobs, Walmart being one of them, in a few different towns and I can say that at most 5% of customers are rude right off the bat. Either you come off as a rude asshole which makes them do the same, or you're a pussy who's over reacting. Unless you work in a ghetto Walmart, it's one of the easiest jobs out there and you'll be dealing with far more clueless customers than asshole customers.

And btw, nobody is going to care about you have fucking Walmart on your resume.

Having worked for both Target and Walgreens, as a cashier, floor worker, department specialist and finally assistant manager, I can tell you that 95% of retail customers are nice or neutral. It's the 5% of asshole customers that can make your job suck if you don't know how to handle them. It's a skill that has to be learned. Ask your managers for advice about how to handle them. I find "killing them with kindness" works most of the time. It's really hard for a human to continue to be a shit to someone who is nice back and is not breaking down.

Also, I found that people were nicer to me when I made an extra effort to look nice. I know that sounds nuts because you work at Walmart, but trust me, it works. For whatever reason, humans just treat nice, clean looking people better.

first i don't advocate any of the following.
but i used to work at walmart. i did ics and worked a remod and basically did random fill in work.
my store was bad to the point where a guy on my shift broke his leg. they take him to the hospital give him a bunch of drugs then make him take a drug test, they waited till he returned to work then fired him. they did a bunch of other shit but more or less after that i stopped giving a fuck.
one day saw security was down because remod, called up a guy i knew and next thing you know walmart is missing 20 or so tvs out of the back. after that they had me stand out back to guard the rear of the store lol.
i told a customer to go fuck themselves
i worked returns and let customers return obv stolen shit.
i let customers return soiled underwear
i broke so much shit. i took all the magnets for the displays for the entire store
but i smiled and showed up on time and didn't do drugs so no one thought it was me.
they gave me a raise, then laid me off two days before my next benefits level. then called me up two days after that begging me to come back. i told the hr chick (who was a cunt) to go fuck herself on the phone.
now I'm a financial analyst
but i also worked a good construction job after that that i could put on my resume.

anyhow Walmart probably wont give you a good recommendation anyways because hr can't be assed but don't do anything illegal. i would just quit if you are planing to get fired.

just stop giving a shit. If the customers treat you badly because you didn't do anything then just give them the service they gave you. Not enough to get you into shit though.

Be more assertive too and make eye contact.when you are.

The best realization I had when working retail is to remember that people aren't pissed off at you personally. They take it out on you obviously, but they're pissed off at the company/management/product/etc. Unless it was specifically you who fucked them over majorly, just don't take it personally

anywho there was some gay club that emptied out at like 2 am so me and the other employees used to play ugly woman or transvestite. which pretty much led me to hitting on a lot of transvestites to win bets.

another time a woman came in to purchase a toilet at 4 am. i told her she should call an emergency plumber. she had no idea something like that existed and was so ecstatic she gave me a huge bear hug.
she was covered in literal shit. lol.
