what effect does having a mother die on a young boy have on him as he gets older?
I would imagine it makes him sad.

>die on
literally, or figuratively?
also that's a very nice image, who is the artist?
Nothing and everything.
Maybe he won't realize what he's lost. Maybe he will.
A mother means a lot.
As does a father.
They both mean so much.
Everyone is a life. He will grow and become a man he will be.
Try to ensure that he feels loved. By both women and men

My best friend's mother died when he was 8 years old.
Then his sister died when he was 33, of the very same debilitating disease.
It has basically destroyed his ability to have a romantic relationship with the opposite sex. He is completely neurotic about it. He becomes obsessed with unobtainable women: 10/10 goddesses already in relationships, or lesbians. If he makes any headway, his approach is so slow and gentle that he gets friend zoned.
As for other areas of his life...he is a fatalistic nihilist. He has an advanced degree, and he is a bartender.
