Some of them will claim otherwise, but those are the ones who are so deep in their lies they've become delusional and convinced themselves they enjoy these hobbies; deep down inside they know it's all a facade.

Because nerd/gamer/larp people in general are fucking basket cases. People who are overly introverted (and overly extroverted) have mental issues. Nothing surprising about it.

For pretty much the same reasons that the boys are. They tend perhaps a bit more strongly towards past abuse than the boys dom while the boys tend more strongly toward failure to meet expectations, but I'm not sure it's by enough to make much of a difference.
