An acquaintance of mine seems to be losing their mind. They claim that people are using psychic power to try to make them explode; and that their skull is changing shape.
They seem to be a paranoid schizophrenic. Apparantly someone told them that "there is another person inside her" and that freaked her out even more. Out of sympathy, I want to convince them to get help. How do I do this without causing them to have an episode (and trying to murder me)? I have no way of contacting their family.
Tell them that talking to a psychiatrist and taking medication will help prevent their skull from exploding.
Females are something like 65% less likely to commit violent acts than men. And that's females 18-25. Females 25-32 it's even lower, and 32-45 lower than that.
Get your friend help but your chances of being murdered by her are WAY less than the chances of YOU murdering her, especially if you're a male 18-25.

Tell them that you don't know whether they are right or not about their head exploding, and that this is why they should talk to a specialist of the head who knows more than both of you. If you flatly disagree then they might push you away. If you convince the person that you both don't know enough about the situation and need the opinion of a professional then they might listen.

This is a really really difficult question. As someone who has experienced delusions as well (Bipolar 1) I know that when people would straight up tell me I was wrong, delusional, or irrational, I would be angry or get really upset and cry. So maybe gently tell them to talk to someone about their fear, just say that talking to a psych would help them learn to not be so scared.
It's worth mentioning that I had lucid moments. Of course this person isn't going to have the same experiences I did but if you can get them into a calm state and walk them through things slowly in a way that doesn't outright say they're wrong/delusional you may be able to convince them to get help. Who knows though, I only got help myself after my friends/family basically had an intervention with me because I was wandering to random parts of town on the bus when I was supposed to be doing things like meeting someone, going to school, staying in the docs office. The point when someone realizes they need help is different for everyone.
