Do I need to pretend to be confident, charming and normal in social situations?

I've got chronic depression so I've got quite a low mood a lot of the time and I'm of the assumption that people like me aren't too appealing socially. Occasionally I try feign happiness, seem normal and what-not but I'm not sure if I should bother, most of the time I struggle to see a point. Another problem I have is not knowing when I can stop pretending with people or if I should stop.

Yep. Anytime anyone asks how you are doing you sound chipper and don't sour the mood.

That's entirely up to you anon. Personally speaking I only pretended to be happy for my family in such situations, but showed my depression everywhere else when I was afflicted.
>Hope that helps

EVERYBODY puts on a happy face around others - it's just a normal part of social interaction. Don't think it makes you weird.

And, no, it doesn't have to be all the time. But save your glum moods for friends you trust.

How did that work out for you?

I didn't realise everyone did it, I'll make sure to keep that in mind. Thank you.

Well Id say. My family never suspected anything, and people usually didn't bat an eye at my depressed demeanor. After a while I overcame it and it all turned out okay. That all being said if you think you need it turn too professional help.
