I'd say most times the people who dress like that are more into the look than the lifestyle though so you're probably safe. They might try to act a bit edgy but most aren't actually depressed ect. If you went back to the early 2000's it's be a different story though.

The thing about goths is that they seem to never grow up. I tend to wear tacky, "edgy" clothes, myself, and so I have a lot of friends that are in that subculture. Most of them still act like pretentious teenagers, despite being in their 20s and 30s. Men tend to be worse than women with the pretension, in my experience.

Another thing is that it's easy to confuse the emo/goth culture with Scene/Punk culture, seeing as though they wear similar outfits.
