I found a hard drive at the library. Was gonna hook it up to my computer to see what's on it but I'm paranoid that someone may have planted a virus on it. How can I find out if it's clean or not?

you aren't finding out what's on that hard drive without compromising the security posture of whatever system you're plugging it into. You could i guess build something bare bones just to find out, but that sounds pretty silly if you don't already have parts laying around.
Create a Linux LiveCD. Disconnect your own hard drives from the computer. Boot from the Linux LiveCD. Examine the contents of the found drive.
