I got a BS in Nuclear Engineering over a year ago. I've had zero luck getting a related job, don't have money for grad school, and just want to go back basic work.

My first batch of applications all came back with overqualified letters. Do employers take it as a sign of dishonesty if you leave degrees off your application? What's a good way to explain the three years (I worked for the first two years of the degree) out of work (that isn't as bad as getting a Bachelor's)?

Thanks. STEM meme and all that.

What sort of jobs?

Also maybe just put it to the end of your cv, that's what I did, and I got a job in a warehouse

You gotta move to the more populated areas: Seattle, SF, LA, Austin, NY, DC, etc.

If you're applying for menial labor jobs, leave it off. If you're applying for ones that match your skills and degree, obviously leave it.

That said - network, network, network.

If you're willing to move, start applying to your dream entry job everywhere.

If not, there's nothing wrong with leaving it off for jobs that aren't remotely related. But, having a degree is better than not for almost all decent paying jobs.

There are no nuclear power plants in my state; I've been applying all over the country since the week I graduated. That isn't working, so I'm now trying to get a local low-skills job.

Man, networking. If I knew you personally, one of my childhood best friends fathers does the hiring for a major company, and previously worked at San O before it closed.

I'm really trying to think how I could pretend to know you and give him your resume.

I appreciate the sentiment.

how hasn't it been working, specifically?
are they rejecting you before or after interview, giving you a specific reason, etc?

I've had three interviews during that time.

The first one went really well, and they told me they'd call me back in a week. They called me back in a month and said their funding (It was a national lab) got canceled.

I thought the interview for the second one went well (they even paid my travel costs) but apparently I screwed up horribly because I didn't get it, and I actually had to call them to make sure I didn't get it. I'm not autismo, so I'm really at a loss as to what happened.

The third one went well, but got dragged out for over a year due to the department making errors (according to my contact) and they ended up not hiring anyone (it was government).

Bigger problem I guess is that I only got three interviews in all that time.

Thank god I didn't fall for the STEM meme.
