Based on recent experiences (everyone knows this shit already anyway, apart from me)
1. When you meet a girl and you realise you like her, ask her out as soon as you possibly can/when you get a good opportunity.
2. Do so casually, in a friendly manner, directly. Don't say "Hey, let's go on a date", say "Hey, let's go do XYZ, it'll be fun" - the whole avoiding saying "Do you want to" is important.
3. Express interest by being genuinely interested in the person, don't try to hide that you have a crush on them.
4. Respect their boundaries and don't ever come on too strong.
5. Text on the basis that you send one text, she sends one back, don't spam, don't send long texts.
6. Texting is shit and you can't really talk via text message. You will realise that you need to get to know them better through dates. You can use facebook if she uses facebook but dating is important.
7. "Dating" is the process through which you get to know the person, but also the way in which you direct your relationship with them along a certain path, rather than that of friendship.
8. You actually have a kind of "window of opportunity" with a girl in which you are new and have some novelty. She doesn't know you, you don't know her. Get to know her by dating her. If you become friends, it gets a lot harder to switch to dating because she's already known you for some time and you're not new and exciting anymore.
9. Never try to do the whole "I'm such an anxious geek god" kind of self deprecating shit. Be self deprecating but don't show her how fucked up you are and that you have issues.
10. Again, just for emphasis, ASK HER OUT - AS SOON AS YOU CAN
11. You'll regret not asking her more than you will regret asking her after she laughs at you.
12. Be interesting, don't shoot all your bolts too soon, you need conversation ammunition so you don't get awkward silences - think of cool questions to ask her, ideally.
13. Be mysterious.
14. Get cool hobbies

If you want to not be fat, lose weight through diet - dieting is the only effective way to lose weight. You will also need to calorie count, and remember, your body weight will be a life-long problem unless you make some life-long changes.
Diet by eating mostly good quality vegetables and meat and eating fewer carbs. Force yourself to like veggies.
After you lose weight, start working out. Don't try working out when you're really fat because you won't be able to do it and it'll put you off exercise. Exercise gets so much easier

You might get lucky and the girl is into you and wants to text you first, or she might be like the girl I tried to text who turned out to have no interest in me at all (or, rather, I killed any potential interest prior to that) in which case she'll always reply, but never really text first or start up text conversations. You're right though, it does vary from person to person

I think I've learned though now that there are certain things in life you just have to plow through and fuck up incredibly. Don't invest too much emotionally in one girl, never love her more than you love yourself, you must put yourself always in first place.
If you are in a relationship and you feel like your partner doesn't like you as strongly as you like him/her, don't lose sleep over this relationship, it'll only last for as long as you are willing to put up with indifference or until your partner finds someone better than you.

A thing came up on my facebook newsfeed which two female 'uni friends' commented on. the image was on a popular page and was 'we all know an idiot named ________', the name was my name. I noticed that one of the girls tagged the other girl. The thing is both of them are barely passing/almost failing the course and I am getting highest honors in almost everything. Are they just jealous? Is it maybe not about me? Should I do anything about it (say something to them) or just leave it and not be friends with them anymore?

In a way this is very true. I can guarantee that many of us come here out of pure habit and spend a vast amount of our free time wasting away trying to find something humourous and to shitpost, I am no different.
However I'd Argue that leaving this site is nigh impossible, mostly because there's nothing like it in the website. Yes there is a lot of negativity in 4chan as a whole but look at this way, its like another side of the coin. I wouldn't call all of us smart, even me for that matter but I feel like we're a little more aware than the general populous, "not deluded" could be more of the phrase. Honestly tho, 4chan as a whole has actually kinda made me into the person who sees both sides (or more) of arguements and come up with my own opinion, all thanks to the contrarian nature of this site.
Just limit yourself to how much you spend your time in the site and the net as a whole and don't wallow in self-pity. You'll be fine.
