Hey /adv/. I kept in touch with a high school teacher. I tend to email him once every 3 weeks or 6 weeks, and he tends to reply every 3 - 4 weeks.
Should I lose contact with him? It has been so long since he taught me and sometimes I don't know if he only kept in touch with me as he thinks that it is rude to not reply. I've met people who are "nice" to me when they are actually saying stuff about me behind my back.

Unless something unsavory is happening, I don't see why you should worry. I've kept in contact with mentors from up to a decade ago, just chatting about what's new in fields of study, but maybe arts are different than if this is a math teacher.
Still, unless there's something bad happening keeping a strong network is fine.

Teacher (not yours) here
We enjoy hearing from former students, and I've had a few continue writing (infrequently but regularly) for years.
That said, we generally expect you to move along with your life and fade out of ours, with no regrets.
So keep up the occasional writing as long as you enjoy it, and stop when it begins to feel like a chore.

Small community in a low population state.
Depends. I enjoy hearing from former students. And I keep in contact with mentors from ages ago. But the contact varies depending on the person.
As stated before, once it's a chore, don't. :-)
