I'm an ardent believer in not wearing shoes in the house. My roommate vehemently disagrees, and since it's a cultural difference we can never sway each other.
What is the best compromise? Wearing street shoes into the house is so goddamn unhygienic.

deal with it? id agree on carpeted floor, but on hardwood that stuff is dirty within the hour. no matter how hard i sweep and mop, my feet are blackened from walking on it. easier to wear flip flops unless im in my room

ask him to get a pair of shoes dedicated to wearing inside the house. maybe offer to buy him a pair of shoes if he promises that they'll only be worn inside and that he changes into them at the door

He'd be willing to do this, but his biggest problem is when we have people over (which is fairly often). He doesn't want to make people take their shoes off. Would it be awkward to have your shoes off at a party playing beer pong and stuff?

Having shoes off is nice but some people have smelly feet so it would be courteous to not do that for parties I believe
