Getting my braces on tomorrow.
Anything to expect?
Your self esteem to be destroyed

This. Braces suck and ruin your appearance for a while
>>16912794
You're mouth will hurt too much for solid food for a while. Make sure you have stuff like shakes, yogurt, or pudding to eat instead.
Also make sure your orthodontist gives you dental wax!! You stick it over any sharp parts poking into the inside if your mouth.
>>16912810
*Your
And by a while, I mean only a few days.
Also, I didn't feel like my braces or anyone else's detracted from looking good. I think it just makes people look more youthful.
>>16912823
Depends. Some girls still seemed to like me when I had them on, but I thought I looked really odd/dorky with them.
They'll fucking hurt
Oh another thing, this will be your face if your tongue touches the cement they use to stick on the braces. It's like concentrated sour.
>>16912832
I bet you were very qt
Your face might change a bit if your teeth are really fucked
My teeth are pretty fucked up. I have a 90% overbite.
My teeth are pretty crooked and it doesn't bother me too much unless I see myself in group photos and I'm the only one with a crooked smile.
But I feel like at 21 I can't bring myself to get braces. Especially with no dental plan.
Are you having surgery as part of the treatment or are they just straightening your teeth out?
Just curious because I used to have normal braces and they told me I had TMJ and we wasted all this money and now I'm on a 2 year long braces-surgery-braces regimen.

This anon here
>>16912992
How did you get diagnosed for TMJ? And is that surgery/braces regimen the treatment? I have pretty frequent jaw pain.
>>16913001
Does your jaw crack/pop/or otherstuff? Do you get migraines?
Before I started braces, I was 22 and constantly getting migraines almost every day. You might get jaw lock like you have moments where you cant move your mouth or jaw for a few seconds and it hurts.
The day I got braces again the migraines clmed down so we think my jaw was misplaced and pinching nerves. I still get them just only if I don't get enough sleep or something similar.
You have to see a specialist, maybe a consultation with your GP and orthodontist. They might refer you to an orthosurgeon to tell you about the surgery (orthognathic). They send you back to the orthodontist to plan out the braces. My braces were not covered under our insurance. Its really expensive like $20k but they say it's worth it because my teeth are fucked up even after spending 4 years with braces in the past.
>>16913020
Oh, also I have Marfan syndrome which often cause problems like a raised roof in your mouth and longer jaw.
People with Marfans are at higher risk for stuff like this but it's a pretty rare syndrome. You can have TMJ without that.
>>16912996
I am not getting surgery. just braces and headgear, but only for my free time when im alone.
>>16913020
>Does your jaw crack/pop/or otherstuff?
Yep, pretty constantly. Especially if I poke one side of my jaw with pressure and open my mouth, or open my mouth too wide. It doesn't really give me migraines but it makes sleeping impossible at times because of how much pain it gives me.
I recently moved to a new city so I don't have a current dentist but that's way too expensive for me anyway ;_;
>>16913020
I dont get any kind of pain in my mouth whatsoever.
>>16913041
Ah yeah, it sucks.
You might want to find an orthodontist to help you rule it out. I was really skeptical when they told me I'd want surgery because of the pricetag but they said I'd have a lot of trouble eating when I'm older and the migraines became unbearable.
They also told me I might sleep better after everything. I haven't felt really rested from sleep in a long long time. They said it works with my COPD to make sleeping really hard. I get up almost every night to use my inhaler.
Talk to your doctor if you're concerned.
Your teeth will be painful to the touch for as long as three days. Don't panic, you will undoubtedly be able to eat regular foods in due time.
After the initial length of pain, expect to feel similar after you get them adjusted each month, but even that becomes less prevalent after a few months of getting it done.
TL;DR don't panic, patience is a virtue. you'll hardly even notice them after a while
>Girls probably won't be interested in you for a while (assuming you're not underaged b&) since you'll look like a kid. But the end result is worth it.
>Always do what your orthodontist says. If he says wear rubber bands every day, do it. There's a reason to it. Otherwise, the process will be delayed and you'll have the braces on longer.
>When they are tightened, it's going to hurt for a night or two. Be prepared to eat soft food.
>But like I said, it's going to be worth it in the end. So put up with the bullshit.
>Also, make sure you wear your retainers once you get them off. No point in going through this and then having your teeth shift back to their original spots.

>living in a shithole where having braces ruins your life
Where I lived approximately 50% of my classmates had braces between 7th to 9th grade and no one ever bullied or shamed other kids for having them. I guess it sucks to be in a degenerate part of the world where kids receive a poor upbringing...
I had braces for four years and then surgery and my teeth are still misaligned
shit sucks
>>16912794
it's probably gonna be uncomfortable for a good week or two, then each time they "tighten" them you're gonna wanna rip them off the first week
not that bad
on 2nd day i forcibly ate a chicken-bake from costco it hurt but was worth it
whatever you fucking do wear your retainers after.
tryst me

>on 2nd day i forcibly ate a chicken-bake from costco

kek
also OP here
Its the big day
wish me luck ;^)

This desu. Wasn't as many kids but nobody even mentioned them. Also a few of them go the kind where you don't really see them. One of the guys wasn't discovered until 2 weeks after he got them.
Why anyone would bitch about it is beyond me. It's a self improvement thing.
930, thats whem my grandma is going to pick me up. we got a while
It doesn't hurt right away. But you will be eating soup for a week after.
You will get used to them... ice had mine for 3 years... I'm 20 and I can't see myself without them;). People say I look better with braces...
>>16914845
Well i hope people say the same about me.
i took them off early by request and my teef look like sufjan stevens, I like them better than if they were perfect
Big time now. Wish me luck.
Op here
Just got metal rings in. Going to get other sharp objects in my mouth now.
Just waiting for The doctor
>didn't use my retainer after my braces were removed
>my teeth now look exactly the same as before I got my braces on
anyway when you have braces on avoid eating potato chips if you can, those broke more brackets for me than anything else
Back home now. I can deliver pics.
Is it actually possible to suffer long term health problems if I don't get my teeth fixed?
Here
>>16915585
Did... Did you unironically get green and purple braces?
>>16915576
Is being single because you have ugly, fucked up teeth a health problem?
I had braces for a year and all I remember is that there was a shit ton of saliva in my mouth. I did have the night braces for a while too.
>>16915591
No. I just wanted green and purple.
I had a twin block brace to bring jaw forward for a bout a year. I had 4 teeth out (one main molar) then train tracks for about 3 years plus to open a gap that had closed (I lost my front tooth).
I then wore a retainer with a fake tooth in it for half a year or so before getting a tooth stuck on which is what I have now. Still where a retainer at night to keep it all in place.
In the future i'll get an implant, oh and a wisdom tooth has come through. I'm barely 18.
It's not that bad desu, and extremely satisfying to see the results.
>>16912810
That dental wax does fuckall. Instead just make sure that you check your mouth for sharp bits thoroughly before leaving the dentist's office.
