In the past 10 years I've prided myself by keeping my computer relatively clean and have never had a severe virus bother me. Suddenly, I keep getting a CTX virus popping up, and my computer is soft locking about once every 20 minutes, but I can still move my mouse. After about 30 seconds, everything goes back to normal.
I can't seem to get rid of it no matter what I do, but what bothers me is that I can't figure out how I got it in the first place. I rarely use Email, and I don't download movies or games off the net or use torrents. Could someone else's computer on my network have somehow sent it over or something?
Anyway, anyone have advice on how to get rid of this virus? Starting to get nervous.
Full reinstall is the safest option. It's less scary than it sounds.
Could be another device on the network but you should also consider security flaws in some software accessing the net could be at fault too. Just do what the other anon said and reinstall your OS. You should do that every now and then anyways.
