Sweden (preferably northern) or Cayman islands/Bahamas?

Extra info: I'm a med student
>>
Did you (a 26-year-old) come on here (a site for teenagers) to ask for advice about whether you (presumably an American?) should pursue a medical career in northern Sweden or in the Bahamas?
>>
>>16898698
Two very different choices. Why those two? There are lots of places in the world.

>>16898705
Not everyone is a teenager here. Quite a few older posters are lurking as well.
>>
>>16898712

It's still an insanely specific question that very few people would be equipped to answer. Even /adv/'s resident weird older guys.

If you're actually well educated and speak proper English we are more than happy to have more of your kind here in the north. Swedish and Norwegian are however a lot easier languages to learn than Finnish so you might get in to the society there far more than in Finland though. We should also be pretty high up in the lists when it comes to healthcare at least for now. Low pollution, corruption and generally among the safest places to live on earth. Temperatures vary from plus 25 degrees to minus 25 degrees though so it can get hella cold out here.

I am 28 and from one of the Nordic countries with second degree education and currently working as software developer.

So you're not

a) From Sweden
b) aware of what it takes for an American to live and work in Sweden
c) a doctor/in the medical industry
d) aware of the differences between Sweden's and the Bahamas' medical industry

I'm OP

Not American and didn't come here to seek advice for my medical career, I'd have other channels for that. The med student part was given just to point out that I can use my degree everywhere in the world.

Sweden: beautiful landscapes. I don't mind cold climates. I'm starting to study swedish and I like the language. From what I read, I wouldn't have a lot of issues getting along with people (that are stereotypically believed to be very cold, but I believe this is a bit exaggerated)
Cayman/Bahamas: beaches. 12 months of summer

As I already said: I'm not really asking about the medical industry. If you want to help people you can do it everywhere with good or shitty facilities. My question is more about the life in the place

At least for now? What do you mean?
>>
If you're not European, it may not be so easy to move to Sweden, even if you have a medical degree.

If you want to work as a doctor it's really not as simple as having a medical degree. Firstly, they need to accept your qualifications (if you're not American this not actually a given for a country like Sweden) and you also have to keep in mind they have socialised healthcare in a lot of these places.

Meaning beginner positions for doctors are given out as placements to graduating medical students as priority. Sometimes they will have even worked out how many of a certain type of doctor/medical person they need to train.

There will be a way into the loop but having a medical degree and no work experience by no means makes you hugely in demand.

To get a work visa for a lot of places you will need to secure a job quickly or even before you go. If you just want a crappy job as a school first aid assistant they might not want to hire someone from abroad anyway.

Don't forget. You need to speak the language of the place you are interested in as well.

No I am from Finland and don't have much experience with the field of health care and medication.
Moving to any foreign country and finding work can be difficult which is why I mainly listed pros that Nordic countries tend to share.

The three countries are relatively close as well so if things don't work for you in one it can be easy to jump from one to another.

Thank you all for your replies

I'm from Europe

Yep I know about the bureaucracy. My plan would be indeed to just have my medical degeee recognized, so I could apply for the swedish AT program which is, as I understood, a 21 months long internship around different departments so I can learn the job like all the other freshly graduated med students.
Learning the language it's not something I'm scared of, as I said I kinda like it.

And last but not least, I'm really not the kind of person to move without a job. If nothing works out I can always find a job in my country. I'm more curious about the life in the country. What's the general feeling of people there? Are they happy? Do they all want to run away?
