How do I tell my crazy left-wing parents that I'm a right-wing libertarian?
>>
Start with "I have this problem that I haven't been talking to you about, I'm sorry, but I've gone to the dark side," continue from there.
>>
Maybe they're not authoritarian. If you discuss politics go for that first.
>>
>>16870311
Goose-step into the living room with your best business suit and loudly proclaim "The free-market will fix everything!", march back to your room and masturbate to ayn rand again.
>>
>>16870311
>mom, dad, i'm sorry, but the test results came back and it seems like i'm legally retarded
>>
>>16870311
Just do it. Would they really kick you out for having a different ideology?

>>16870353
Kek'd hard.
>>
Do you need to? Who just announces their political position to their friends and family members out of the blue?

Just give your opinion on things whenever they ask for it and I'm sure they'll figure it out soon enough.
>>
>knowing enough about politics to actually be able to place yourself on a political compass
I'd say you still don't know enough then. Honestly it's very few people who are that idealistic.
>>
>>16870481
I agree. Align yourself with the tea party long enough and you may just form a split personality with George Washington on the other end, like the ones in those rallies.
>>
how about instead of automatically closing yourself off from their ideology by labeling them "crazy left wingers" you openly discuss politics with them and explain why you've come to feel the way you do and see what their points of view on it are. Maybe you'll realize that you don't actually have all the answers after all, maybe they'll realize that some of their views are wrong.
>>
>>16870680
I doubt OP could do that. Libertarianism is basically like permanently being a 1-2 year old in the "mine!" phase. Understanding the viewpoints of others likely isn't his strong suit.
>>
>>16870361
>Liberal parents

Most likely not.
>>
>>16870789
>this view of libertarianism
Well you've clearly not read about it enough. It's incredibly easy to describe socialism/communism the same. If you can't add a third dimension measuring how feasible you consider something to your political compass or it doesn't have more than two local min/max then I'd say you don't know enough to participate in democracy properly. And not seeing anything good with libertarianism pretty much guarantees you don't know enough.

It's very important for a democratic society to not have bigots. Or people unwilling to listen.
>>
>>16870311

Why tell them. Will just be a pain in the ass. Just do what everyone else does when their parents talk about politics. Zone out.
>>

>having crazy left-wing parents
So, how often do you hear Jamal fucking your mom from your parents' bedroom while your dad sits in the living room minding his own business?
>>
>>16870970
You're making a lot of assumptions there. I never said I don't see anything good about libertarianism. I agree with them on most if not all social issues. My first comment referred to how I feel about their economic views.

Mom, Dad, I am autistic

Far-left and far-right are two sides of the same coin. They're both nutjobs, willing to separate themselves from their children over simple ideological spats,

>>
>>16870970
This is a conversation you should be having with your parents, not anons. We already think you're stupid. It's time to let your parents know, too.
>>
>>16871093
His point still stands.
>>
>>16871106
I'm not op. I don't get how you can just make claims like that and not feel bad about it though.

I'm not even libertarian (not by the US definition anyway which I presume were talking about here). Liberal (not US definition, can they just stop fucking things up?) sure but not that far right. Compasses place me somewhere in the center usually but it's very issue specific.
>>
>>16871120
I don't know what you US definition of libertarian is, but every definition in the world couldn't change how retarded this "political" point of view is.
Libertarian was created by wealthy people, for wealthy peoples. It really shows how far thirst for money can fuck people's mind up
>>
>>16871532
Well if we assume every possible definition (as you seem to claim to know) it's basically spread from left to right and is a very liberal (rest of the world use) position. I'd argue it's more towards the extremes rather than center. Originally I believe libertarianism was left leaning. But I could be wrong (though I checked Wikipedia now and it concurs). Regardless the problem with American libertarianism is that it's almost at voluntarism and it's not consistent with the rest of the world. Even worse the libertarian movements in the US in the past were actually left leaning if I recall. The US has a very twisted political past overall it seems but I haven't taken any special interest in America history.

Regardless you haven't mentioned what's for the wealthy about libertarianism. I just don't see it. Is it the idea that the strong will prosper because there's so little authoritarian rules that they will fuck everyone? Maybe. That's the best I can do. But that really is a local governing issue at worst. It's not like you couldn't have stops in a libertarian system. Anarcho-communism or voluntarism couldn't though.

>"political"-in quotes
I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. Are you confusing it with anarchy? I'd still argue that's political.

>authoritarian rules that they will fuck [sic] me and my hefty bags of cold because paper money and abstract concepts confuse me ive never read the leviathan because im a dumb guy and if i cant manipulate stupider people for ego and capital gain then the rules are fucked for everyone
couldnt have said it better myself

Shouldn't have posted during hours people with jobs sleep/go to work, anon. Those lazy lefties with no jobs are trolling your thread.
>>
>>16871640
Yep perfect summary there. Again confusing me with what's not my ideology I think.
>>
I feel like we'd be taken more seriously if a good chunk of our base wasn't edgy 18 year olds that don't understand economics.
>>
>>16870311
So how racist are you op?
