I just got a text from a num,ber I don't know: +447398279009, saying "Good day, I am Trevor; I have a proposition for you, kindly reply to my private email for further details: [email protected]". After a quick search, I found that number is brit, which is odd since I'm nowhere near that country. What the bloody hell?

its a scam. they were popular messages like that back in email days, but now we all know about junk emails like that. we get 30 nigerian princes offering us millions if we give them our bank account info.
this is just the evolution of hte market. someone likes you think they got a text from someone they know (When in reality their phone number just fell into a strangers hands) so they look into it.
foreign numbers are likely safer for them to use, and they may in fact be foreign as well
