Despite 'stylism' not being an actual word, I can't really find an alternative to it and am compelled to use it in my essay. Should I? Do you know of any way to put it differently. I was surprised when I saw that it wasn't a word.

Pic unrelated

"I will attempt to create a balance between realism and stylism in terms of camera technique, editing and general mise-en-scene."

Thanks man.

Just use the words 'the real' and 'the imaginary' instead.
>>

Nah, I gotta get key terms in there. Maybe just change them both to the adjective forms? Like "the realistic" and "the stylistic" instead?
>>
>>16513718
What is this stylism you are mentioning in contrast to realism?

Do you mean symbolism?
>>
Just a pointer, but realism is a style.

You can use stylism if you want, even if it's not a word, but it has to be defined and hyper relevant. You might want to say;

"balance between realism, and a stylized approach in terms of"

Sorry for S/Z, I'm English.
>>
plz don't use stylism it sounds a little silly, especially when its so close to the word realism
>>
>>16513724
I suppose it is somewhat of a vague term. I guess what I'm trying to say is that although my production will be realistic in many regards, certain aspects of it wouldn't make complete sense in the real world e.g. time compression and light without a logical or obvious source.

>>16513737
Hm, I like that. I'll probably end up using something to that effect. Thank you.

>>16513745
Yeah, I'm getting that feeling. I won't use it.
>>
If you're talking about camera techniques, wouldn't there be an established one with a definition that matches what you're trying to convey when you say stylism?
>>
>>16513701
I think you would just use 'style'.
