I was at one point unstable. I was with a guy who had terrible anxiety, unemployed, flunked out of college. I dedicated my life to helping him. I did what ever I could to make his life a little easier. I provided for him, I kept he apartment/clothes/dishes clean, I gave him emotional support any time of day, no matter how late or how much I had to do at work the next day.
It took me FOUR YEARS to convince him to go to a therapist. I eased him into work, even filling out the applications for him. He had maybe three jobs that he kept for a couple weeks before he decided it was too stressful to keep going.
I tried to convince him that if he couldn't work, he should get on disability. But he needed a doctor's backing and he wouldn't go to one.
We ended up living in my parent's because I couldn't support us both alone.
On top of his unwillingness to improve, he didn't treat me well at all. He would tear into me when I didn't phrase something well, while I apologized and tried so hard to watch what I said. When I calmly told him about "when you say this like this, it hurts" he would brush me off, saying I was overreacting and he didn't mean it.
His anxiety made him unable to give me emotional support. Whenever I showed I was sad (I have depression) he would freak out about not knowing what to do, and it would end up with me comforting him while he sobbed that he was a bad boyfriend.
Any time I tried to discuss some of the ways he treated me, he'd take it to mean that he didn't deserve to live.
Life was hell. I was constantly walking on eggshells. I was stressed out, barely paying the bills.
I was calm and patient and understanding for YEARS before I realized I was enabling him, I was bitter and not as warm, and neither of us would move forward while together. His illness drove us apart.

Again, you have to respect the divide between the two of you. I'm sure she has a libido but she doesn't have "a mood" on her end. You do moods. She operates on a purely sensible level. She has a libido and sexuality is how she satiates it. Asking doesn't sabotage that in any way.

Third party, I think that's completely reasonable. It wasn't the first sign of hardship that made you walk away, but nearly half a decade of it. I can get the original guys fears though, when I was trying to deal with some loss all of the women I knew pretty much gave me the cold shoulder, discounting those in the immediate family. So I've always felt a bit paranoid about opening up to other women since.
