I wouldn't mind so much if the writing were fantastic, but most of these are just "alright"
as a writing rule of thumb, you don't want your voice to sound like writing
as a writer, you should be trying to get out of the way of whatever scene you're making
when you use fancy words, or words that you think make "good writing," you're jumping in between the reader and the scene and going "look how good my writing is"
bottom line is read what you write out loud, and if you sound like a twat, it's not good
bottom bottom line is write a bunch and you will get a feel for it
