Rereading the semester exam arc and the teams that seem to make the least sense as to why their trial was setup that way are TsuyuXTokoyami and SeroXMineta
The former they give some vague explanation about froppy stepping up to make up for bird's one weakness but it never really seems to come up, they mostly win by a combination surprise attack.
MinetaXSero against midnight doesn't seem to have anything important going for it other than the chance that they wanted Mineta to resist Midnight's charms but besides that I have no idea.

Each of the three is based on another aspect of Kilik's personality.
For example, Vermelho (red) represents anger, determination, and physical drive. Vermelho uses flames, and gains physical abilities proportional to his energy.
Azul is Blue, and is the control of Tri's personalities. It's mood encompasses Patience, Sadness, calm, and more neutral feelings. It has the ability to control the other two aspects and keep them in line, also responsible for reassimating the three.
Verde, green, represents all of Kilik's light and positive emotions. Happiness, enthusiasm, love, and tranquility. It has the ability to heal wounds.
The problem with this quirk is that whatever emotions are felt by the three, disproportionately empowers one of the aspects. In times of extreme emotional stress, Vermelho can fly off the trigger and pose a threat, while Verde won't be strong enough to heal anything.
The desired balance is to keep a levelhead and divert most of the power to Azul, so that he can distribute it as needed. As long as his energy is higher then the other two's, he can buff or nerf them as he sees fit.
If one of the aspects is killed, his power is deleted and leaves the other two with a huge gap. Without being able to work synergistically, the quirk falls apart and can't be controlled or reassimilated until enough of the dead aspects emotions are built up in the other two.

Who would they put in Deku's group? It's a "the stronger your body is the stronger your quirk is" type. Sugarman needs his sugar and needs to get a bigger limit and boost out of it, not necessarily a stronger body. Maybe Ojiro, but in the training camp all he needed to do was punch with his tail to train, not his whole body.
I think the only ones they could put in a group with Deku to train with are Tsuyu, Two Punch Man and Beast from class B.
Tsuyu is a frog, she can only train her body and nothing else to get stronger. Same with Beast. TPM's quirk is still unknown, but it's name suggests that a strong body would make it stronger.
