Ueda is so beautiful in the mango, shame that they have ruined her design. Thought they did it to the number of designs so it must be conscious.
Aside from that one thing that it does great is sound work. Like, all of the background noise, all of them actually chatting about anything while camera focuses on the other conversation makes for a live and believeable company in comparison to 90% of school anime where people just stand around as if they are acting.

You might already know, but it was. It was an okay adaptation but I thought it left out a lot of key scenes that helped make me care more about all of the characters, so the ending didn't have the same emotional impact the manga did. So far, the anime has been a way more loyal adaptation - it's pretty much exactly the same as the manga I think - so I think this format works best (if we aren't including the manga).

It could have been handled better. The real kicker in that letter is the fact that Kakeru makes no mention of himself in a letter addressed to himself in the future, leading everyone to realize that the "accident" they had learned to live with was in fact no accident.
But we already new it was suicide, so the full emotional impact of that scene was pretty wasted.

Main character is cute but so far it's your generic romance. Not much to interest me in keeping watching but I'll stick around for a few more episodes (probably the whole series) just to make sure I don't miss out on anything good. It's a bad habit I have with seasonal shows.

While I agree with the first part of your part, it's very naive to think there are no rules in order for this to work. It's fine to introduce a magic element at the very beginning of your story. But it's a commonly admitted rule of storywriting that you must NEVER EVER introduce another one (especially not to get yourself out of a pinch), you must always exploit the first one you made and if you can set up the rules of how it works clearly so your audience don't feel cheated.
Bad example: the first Spiderman movie. Spiderman gets his powers from the first magical element of the story, a genetically modified spider, and the green goblin gets his from an entirely different magical element. It feels fake and suspension of disbelief is having a hard time, even for a capeshit movie.
Good example: the Spiderman movie with emo Tobey Macguire. The black alien goo is both what gets Spiderman through his emo phase and later power up the villain. The single magical element introduced at the beginning is fully exploited.
I'd also add, that if your character has to be retarded and passive in order for your story to work, then it would be better for you to write oblomovian Gaston Lagaffe strips rather than shojo involving time travel. An active character is usually needed for these to work, someone like Satoru, who actually tries to make things better.
