Why would you list which anime you watched?
I am legitimately curious, it is not as if you would watch it twice by accident if you didn't write it down and even if you totally forget about it you will probably remember it once someone mentions it or makes a thread about it.
>>
I like Taiga because it keeps track of what episode I'm on when I might otherwise forget if I haven't watched an episode of something in a while. I tend to watch a lot of anime all at once and it might be days or weeks before I watch another episode of this one series. Backlog things obviously, current stuff you just watch when it comes out.

If you feel like rewatching a show but don't remember the name, go through your completed MAL and maybe you'll remember it by the cover

I implore you to try taiga, it changed my life. Why perform manual labour when we are in the age of automation? Let intelligent software automatically detect what exact episode of what show you are watching and silently update the database in the background.

Everyone should be using taiga. It helps keep track of everything, as well as detects new episodes on TT or nyaa using an RSS feed. You can even choose what fansubs you want. 1008It also helps if you don't want to organize your folders of anime and want to rewatch something.

taiga dot moe if anyone is interested.

>As far as I know Taiga uses MAL database, why wouldn't you use MAL in that case?
Can use both MAL and Hummingbird

Taiga keeps an offline database locally as xml files so I it doesn't matter whether MAL is being slow or the servers are down, I can just make changes to my local database and it will sync with my MAL later. I don't have to deal with the online interface that relies on an active internet connection and can just interact with the offline database.

>For RSS and the like, your torrent client should be able to do that.
Yeah, and I was using qbittorent's internal RSS to handle this before but taiga makes it easier with smart RSS filters, so I don't have to make or modify rules each season, just tag a show as "watching".

>>144299321
The stuff on hold is just a couple OVAs and stuff like City Hunter and Patlabor TV which are tons of episodic episodes that one can get quickly burnt out on if binged. So I ration them every now and then rather than binge through.

And yeah, plenty of shit to watch. Even seasonal airing stuff keeps me pretty busy.
>>
>>144297453
MAL. Discussing it or bringing it up on /a/ shouldn't be allowed, but it does help me out not to bother with what chapter I am on in manga I stopped reading for a while and forgot what chapter I am on, or what episode I am on in some long anime I watch simultaneously with current season's anime. It's convenient.

It also immediately helps out when you check anime's list and see that this anime has some special, OVA and etc (how I found Kino specials).

I hope I don't sound like shill and for the love of god just don't read the reviews and don't decide if you want to give anime a shot based on MAL's rating, now that's cancer.

Anime News Network is the superior website, and even that isn't all too good (except for its Answerman Articles - those are very informative).

There is no need to track anything. You can never leave /a/, so eventually you'll reach the point where you have seen everything anyway. Then only the new stuff will matter. Every season I download the first few episodes, and decide what to watch based on it.

If you started recently and you still have a backlog, you could do the same thing backwards. Get the first few eps of anime from the previous seasons, and pretend there are multiple seasons going on at the same time.
It would be interesting to have a someone newer do this, and see how far they make it back in time until they decide this is "too old fashioned".

The best way to ruin stealth advertising threads is to unironically advertise for their competitors.
So if for example a Crunchyroll-thread appears where the question again is why you don't stream, always put FUNimation in a good light (plus perhaps Daisuki). When FUNimation does the same, praise Crunchyroll (and also Daisuki).

It increases the chances for this threads to get attention by the moderators and it ruins the job of the shills.

>what exactly is wrong with rating stuff?
Personally it just feels like 10 point rating systems are not verbose enough to me and not an accurate enough descriptor. Rather than numerical rating we should aspire to descriptive measures, a work cannot be defined as simply a point on a line, it may transcend those boundaries and be described in that a way that does not limit itself to any mathematical and absolute discrete representation.

Would you rate a piece of art in a gallery on ten point scale? "Damn man, that Birth of Venus shit is like a 9/10". No matter how shitty a show, book, manga/comic, cave painting; it is a work of art and to rate it on a discrete scales seems like injustice to the whole idea of a qualitative evaluation.

Also recently the scale has become too positively weighted where an average score is a 7/10 where it used to be 5/10. This results in the lower end of the scale becoming arbitrary and losing and evaluative meaning.

You are still a retard if you forget which shows you watched. Don't try and say "OH WELL I WATCH SOOO MANY".

Nobody is expecting you to remember the entire show. Just the general name of the show and what it was about. Also, if you are marathoning shows to the point where they all blur together and you can't remember shit from them, you clearly aren't watching them properly. If you are watching them just to check them off a list you don't really like them and should probably find a hobby that does engage you.

/a/ has always generally liked MAL's database. It's just that the reviews, recs, and community are cancer.
>>
>>144302004
And the fact you would need to double check with your list as to whether you recognised the title makes me doubt whether you would even remember any of them at all.

The recs are helpful though

That's all there is to it. Why would someone even need to make a list?

In what circumstance would you need to tell me the name of every single anime you've seen?
I remember if I've watched something, I remember where I dropped something (if I drop it).
If I want to double check something why would I go check a MAL or notepad list, when I have them all sitting on my drive (in a list/alphabetical order format) already?
I understand why people would want a list but you already have a list from when you download them into your anime folder.
>>
>>144302404
Anichart would be nice if I could just mark how many episodes of a show I've seen.
>>

There's a difference between enjoying something and loving it to the point that you want to spend time rewatching it in the future. Time is limited.
>>

I dont brag about my hipster status online or offline
>>
>>144303014
Lots of mediocre shows I really, in the end, didn't care for go to trash.
I hoard music and have limited storage space, so only favorite anime gets archived.

Because unlike you Ive important things and cant bother wasting too much time on my hobbies. Also I stream for almost all stuff unless Im busy or the stuff is known for its beautiful animation.
>>
>>144303146
Would you throw away a book after you read it, based purely on the notion you aren't 100% sure you would reread it?
Archiving things isn't restricted to only if you know you would rewatch it, which you can't know anyway because you are unable to ascertain how you will feel in the future.
>>
If I can't remember if I've watched something then it was probably shit.

>>
>>144303247
Well if you hoard something else I can understand other archives taking a back seat to them.
>>
Why would I keep track of it? Like, for what purpose?

I don't do it for movies or television shows I've watched, I don't do it for music albums or video games I've played, so why would anime be any different?

Making sure to list every anime episode I've watched makes watching anime feel like a chore.

Only reason anybody lists is to wank over their stats, when they've only watched less than 50 anime anyway. Seems to validate their dull lives.

>>144297453
I don't because I'm shit at archiving, I don't even keep track of what I watch seasonally, I just watch and when the seasons over I delete it all. I don't have unlimited space after all. And I'm already in too deep to try and make a MAL or something, but I'm not too big on archiving anyway, I'd probably just forget to record a series and then end up the same place as I am now.
>>
I just use a spreadsheet. Same for books, film, vidya.
