It made, and makes perfect sense to try to take her alive.

For any given size, weight and volume, a tall walker will effectively present a more difficult target than a short but wide wheeled or tracked vehicle. That goes double if the walker is properly designed and can go prone.
A conventional tank is very long and the worst part is that moving sideways makes it a bigger target. If it isn't moving sideways, then it is presenting its front to the enemy and thus is only able to move back and forth, which turns its chances of getting hit by any weapon made by the first world from <100% to just about 100%. Incidentally, this is why tanks have the thickest armor on the front. It is literally the dumbest kind of structure design ever made for the sake of working within the currently available technology we have, with no more complex strategy than "have as big a gun as possible and shoot first" and "hope the front glacis is thick enough we don't all die in one shot".
So yes, "conventional wisdom" is shit, because they've never bothered to think about it beyond the simplest terms of combat, nor did they really have to since the atom bomb was created. Walkers are basically by definition extremely top-heavy. Unless they've got a setup like a spider, in which case they're absurdly wide and long for how much actually usable vehicle there is. Not to mention the nightmare it must be for maintenance and how many failure points it will have for breaking down.
The only place I can imagine a walker would be better than a tracked vehicle would be in insanely rough going terrain. But even then, there's infantry to take on said terrain and do so with more flexibility. But in MOST situations a tank is going to be a better option. Especially in frontline warfare and in most rough terrain tracks are just better. Lower ground pressure, less points of failure, easier maintenance, etc. Walkers will never take over the role of tanks. They might fit a scouting role.

Efficiency is not the relevant point here. That section of the argument was purely addressing the difficulty of hitting a tall rather than a short target. If you want to get into movement speed, which is what I'm seeing from the power efficiency argument, realize that the jittery movement of walkers and the ability to change height and make quick trajectory changes (sidestepping, sidestep while running). That should more than make up for the lower straight line ground speed, not to mention that difficult terrain has less of an impact on walker speed than rolling speed.
And you don't dodge fire, you move simply to make it more difficult to hit you by not being a stationary target.

So you fight tracked and wheeled vehicles from rough terrain. You bombard them from a position that they cannot enter. Then when they send in infantry to try and solve the problem, they get slaughtered. Air power is discounted for the sake of this thought experiment scenario because both sides are assumed to have equal air forces countering each other.
Like others have pointed out before, there are a lot of firing positions that have never been considered before because of the poor mobility of wheels and tracks. Just being able to shoot around corners alone is a massive advantage in urban areas. Urban areas aren't exactly difficult to move in with their roads, but that only concerns the ability of a vehicle to get around and not how they actually get to position themselves and fight. For example, most conventional AFVs have their turret mounted on their centerline; this is a serious problem for urban warfare because the front tip of a vehicle will become vulnerable first when rounding a corner without any good way for it to fire unless the structure has weak walls. No such issue exists for sidestepping, leaning, tangoing walkers.

Tanks get rekt in cities, yes, but everything gets wrecked in cities. Infantry takes horrendous casualties in dense urban fighting compared to anywhere else. All vehicles take crazy losses. It's still smart to send the tanks in with the infantry because having heavy direct fire armored support greatly improves the survivability of the infantry. If collateral damage is not a concern, then creating roadblocks and damage will only aid the walker since it will never be affected. A simple line of dragons teeth tank traps along a road can completely halt the movement of conventional vehicles, forcing them to take other routes or slowing them down as infantry clears the obstacles. No such distractions short of (maybe) a completely toppled skyscraper will stop a walker vehicle, so the forces that employ them are free to destroy and shape the environment as they see fit to control the enemy's movements while generating even more cover for the mechs. We both agree that infantry can't bring the kind of firepower that vehicles can, so having them available in more situations is a net plus.

At some point at this conversation, Rizu initiated pyshical contact with Theodore;I dont remember if she simply held his hands or embraced him however either way it was nothing outrageous, but it was clear to Theodore that her affection to him was not that of ordinary siblings love. And while he knew that, he wouldn't return her feelings since that would mean the whole family would crumble, and Theodore doesn't want to hurt his step -parents.
Then there is a scene that shows the family escaping to the west; the scene shows the whole family fleeing together with the stasi chasing them, until Theodore's dad gets shot in the leg. He tells Theodore to take Rizu and run with her, as he can't move anymore. Theodore takes Rizu and keeps running after hesitation, while his step-father remains due to his injury, as well as his step-mother since she wouldn't leave her husband. As they were fleeing, Rizu insists on going back to her parents, and does so against Theodore's will. And that's basically how he lost his family.
