Honestly it's just that long because Aoyama fucking loves writing murder mysteries. You can really tell when you read his work. So, as long as it keeps selling he can just write a ton of murder mysteries and slowly build up development.
I imagine it will end if he gets too old/wants to move on eventually, but until then I'm gonna enjoy a good ass detective show. Also Haibara a best.

I like the whodunits. I watch Conan for the same reason I watch Columbo or Murder, She Wrote.
