I'm looking to get a license and buy a car for regular daily transportation. Know nothing about cars, for some reason the Civic seems to be absolutely dirt cheap. Like a 12 year old kid could buy one by saving up his allowance for a month, maybe less.

You are probably talking about 4 doors Civics. Most of the "normal" civics are just ok cars, nothing impressive, nothing exciting, they drive around and just about it, and there are tons of them, that why they are chap. There are more expensive Civics, mostly coupe and hatch ones with Vtec, with most of car guys really like
