The art style is great by general animation standards but after watching the koyaa58 manga commercials I can't help but feel that they should've had him work on this show. I thought that the characterization was fine and it also went a long way to establish quite a lot of things about the setting, and it did this in a way that might take a bit longer than having it spelled out for you explicitly, but it's shown to you and is therefore much more appealing.
For instance, supernaturals aren't limited to ghosts of spirits, and there's a varying degree of strength amont them.
Mob's power level is fucking obscene, but he's got a kind heart even if he is a bit detached
Reigen cares about Mob, even if he is a bit of a con man (he told Mob to not go after the big mountain spirit, when he was warned about it)
Reigen is a fucking hack and he's always half a step away from being caught
Mob's family is caring, particularly his brother
There's a theme of food in the story, not really sure how much
And so on.
At the end of the day, if the show didn't capture your interests, that's a shame, but blaming it on a lack of story or characterization is odd.

A big part of the attraction to OPM that made it so mainstream is all the power level comparing and gawking people could do with all the characters and big villains. I don't think mob psycho has that kind of attraction. Or, at least, not as strongly
