Any reason this isn't used exclusively with new releases? You can get blu ray quality encodes and have each episode be like 300mb tops
>>
Just summon the one destroying anime and ask him.
>>
I guess some mobile devices like laptops etc dont have the performance to play 1080oh265 files
>>

I think Daiz is offline, you can ask him later though

And? Who gives a shit, faggots who don't own a proper computer probably stream anyway.
>>
daiz didn't get paid to shill 265, only 264

actually come to think of it he tested h265 encoding using a recent series, didn't he? i didn't even d/l it since it sounded like it was basically an even shittier, edgier ripoff of Tokyo Ghoul. And that shit was already edgy enough with how the faggot pussy beta MC became LITERALLY SATAN just because he had his toenails repeatedly ripped out for a day.
>>
>>143988153
If they can play 10bit H.264 they can most likely play H.265 content.
>>
>>143987457
Because it only works on very small number of PC configurations that have i5 cpu or better, don't even get me started on software.
Most hardware bluray players can't play it either.

It's too early for it, also it actually has worse quality than x264 due to the blurring issue.
>>
>>143988793
>If they can play 10bit H.264
Many laptops and most bluray players can't. Also plenty of low end PCs can't either.
>>
>>143988739
They said all of their releases are going to be 10bit H.265 now.
http://underwater.nyaatorrents.org/?view=ajin-01
>Also, this release marks the switch from 10-bit H.264 to 10-bit H.265 here at Underwater, so make sure your playback setup is up to date in case you're having issues.
>>
Great idea! While we are at it... let's just go back to fucking realplayer.

Hard SAGE. No group I ever contribute to will move to that shit.
>>
>>143987457
Because filesize
>>
>>143988986
Sounds like all of the groups you contribute to are scared of change and will be inevitably left behind.
>>
>>143988835
>It's too early for it, also it actually has worse quality than x264 due to the blurring issue.

I only notice the blurring when I pause and look for it. In motion, it's not really noticeable and the minuscule file size is worth it imo..
>>
>>143988894
And? We are talking about new fansub and BD releases which are mostly all 10bit H.264 right now. If you want to run things on a toaster then go with deadfish. Horriblesubs also do standard H.264 for their rips because it is faster to encode and runs on nearly anything, but you don't really keep them for long term archival.
>>
>>143988835

Get 4K bluray player.

This post feels like it came out of 2008 or something. Are you a time traveler?
>>
>>143988894
my $25 walmart tablet from 2 or 3 years ago can play these files just fine. There is no excuse for these people.
>>
>>143989266
I wasn't speaking about myself. I've got more than up to date hardware. I'm pointing out that the average pleb doesn't and those are the people who download anime the most to begin with.

>>143989252
HS releases of Kaiji are still the best afaik.
>>

The less people able to watch anime the better.

>You can get blu ray quality encodes and have each episode be like 300mb tops

Not really. If you're actually using bitrates fit for high quality, you can spend a small eternity encoding something at really slow settings and end up with slightly better compression in certain areas, and if you tweak 10-bit x265 to run at similar speeds as what you usually get with 10-bit x264, you're going to end up with pretty similar quality as well. There's a larger difference at lower bitrates but there's not that much point to it if the end result still looks thoroughly mediocre quality-wise.

It's going to get better over time, but the important thing is to realize that it indeed takes time and it doesn't just magically give better results. You can think of video formats as a set of tools intended for building houses. The tools alone aren't going to do anything, you also need someone who knows how to best make use of said tools to build those houses, and encoding applications are the equivalent to the people there. A new format is like introducing a lot of new tools to the set - it takes time to learn how to make use of them in an efficient manner.

Pretty much the main reason why you'd want to use H.265 right now is for hardware decoder compatibility, since 10-bit is actually going mainstream with H.265 Main 10 Profile.

Why did you kill moot, you goddamn savage?
>>
>>143989341
I don't really get it why people should care about HEVC anyway.
On cameras it makes post production easier (if you can't use log)
>>
>>143989588
>There's a larger difference at lower bitrates but there's not that much point to it if the end result still looks thoroughly mediocre quality-wise.

I dunno man. Back in the day, a 300mb file size meant it looked like crap. With x265, the quality you get with a 300mb file size pretty acceptable imo
>>
>>143989894
You may as well go streaming with that mentality.
>>
>>143989588
>There's a larger difference at lower bitrates but there's not that much point to it if the end result still looks thoroughly mediocre quality-wise.
So it only really helps people who do crappy rencodes? Pretty disappointing with all the hype it had got with saving 50% of the bitrate for the same visual quality over H.264 and such.

>>143990013
Maybe but I don't really like to stream.
>>
>>143990043
>all the hype it had got with saving 50% of the bitrate

You should treat pretty much any and all hype around image/video compression with a massive grain of salt, because chances are they're either a) lying b) exaggerating c) talking about theoretical possibilities. Real results require real implementations, and the implementations are pretty much always going to suck at the beginning of a new format's life, especially if it's more complex than what came before.
>>
>>143989341
>HS releases of Kaiji are still the best afaik.
if we're talking just about the video itself, this is wrong. any random batch of raws are better than those CR rips
>>
>>143987457
>ou can get blu ray quality encodes and have each episode be like 300mb tops
no you can't.

it's not better than x264 10bit. so no one is using it yet. besides doki.
>>
>>143989894
op said blu ray quality.
at that bitrate it will never compare to a 30Mbps of bdmv.
>>
>>143990283
VCB Studio is using them well
>>

>just because he had his toenails repeatedly ripped out for a day.
That doesn't sound like a small thing, anon.
>>
>>143988835
If my phone can decode it in software then I am pretty sure even your terrible computer can do it.

As for bluray players, TVs and other embedded systems not supporting it, who the fuck cares? They don't support 10bit H.264 either but that's still widely adopted.

OP I think it is because the encoder is currently not that great.
>>
The fuck are you guys moving to after divx 5.11? I'd stick with xvid.
>>
>>143991940
DivX ;-) 3.11 alpha I mean.
>>
x265 isn't developed enough yet, it's currently only superior to x264 on extremely low bitrate encodes
>>
>>143988894
I can play 1080p H.265 on a 2011 laptop. There's no excuse.

Can someone reccomend a good mp3 decoder/player that doesn't take up too many cpu cycles so I can play it in the background while playing 3d accelerated games?

Hs is all h. 264 10bit now.

I use cold fusion skin Winamp now, I was just curious if there was a lite version/decoder or basic player without the glitz with Playlist I can keep running in the background.

VP9 is also good though compared to h265 its 40-60mb more.

also, git gud faggot. terabye ext hdds not expensive.

I think a lot of the fansub groups take their cues from the warez scene. You can find their specifications (yes, they actually write specifications like some kinda underground ISO) if you dig around for them.
>>
>>143994790
No they still use 8 bit as of the last time I checked (last season)
>>
>>143987457
>Mentions a filesize instead of a bitrate/resolution combo
Spoken like a true YIFY fan.
>>
>>143999535
I've always seen the fansub community as going for the best quality to bitrate ratio regardless of support or popularity of the codecs/file formats involved.

What impact did they have on xvid? Because they definitely used it way before it became popular on DVD players.
>>
>>143987457
Its shit. Just wait for AV1
