There was no problem. He was best girl and was the shining example that actually proved Neji's intent correct even if his example was wrong.
He and Jiraiya were pretty much the only normalfags in the series genetically speaking that actually managed to accomplish anything of merit.
Orochimaru is honestly one of the best examples of character in Naruto, he went from being someone everyone hates to someone people are glad to have seen succeed to the extent Naruto and Sasuke still leave him alone and let him continue on with his inhumane experiments.

The thing about Orochimaru is that just killing him doesn't stop him.
Itachi "killed" him by eternally trapping him in a genjutsu caused by his Susano-o sword but look where we are now.
Orochimaru is still around and kicking, he's hard to kill, not impossible to kill but even if you kill him, there is another Orochimaru right around the corner somewhere from some experiment that has a cursed seal on them.

That was his goal though, he was an unethical scientist who wanted to live forever so he could learn everything. He wanted the Sharingan because it let him instantly learn new jutsu.
