I still don't understand why this existed.
Are there many Marvel fans in Japan? Probably.
Do the Marvel fans in Japan also like anime? Possible.

I'd like to see more anime Marvel/DC desu.

like adapting famous storylines like Kingdom Come, Sinestro Corps. War, Infinity Gauntlet, Secret Wars, Ultron Unlimited etc. but capeshit isn't too hot in Japan.

is there a term for what happens when western cartoons get "animized"? I've mostly seen it happen with American comics, almost always superhero comics, having a one-shot or a special, etc being re-made as "manga". I recall every one of those weird hybrids ranging from bad to just downright awful.

It's nothing special. Marvel commissions a Japanese studio to make cartoons for them that they can sell broadcast rights of which to tv/media broadcasters.
