I think I remember tripfags in the early threads. Then again, I've been exposed to too many memes and probably hallucinated it.
I think the brilliance of Mayoiga is how intelligent it was compared to its audience. People thought they had the show all figured out. It was horror/mystery, and everyone was going to die. They picked up on little pieces, like the bear prints and Lovepon's violent tendencies, and they thought they were being clever for picking up on "subtle" foreshadowing. They watched every scene, every interaction with bated breath. Turns out that, no, the director was just taunting them.
Every week they kept watching to see people die violent deaths, and the longer it went on, the further the comedy value built up until it hit its ultimate punchline. The audience was the punchline. It's easy to see why people hate it so much. If an anime makes fun of their intelligence, the problem has to be with the anime, right? And not the viewer?

At least the new forum works quite nicely, even if some people dislike it. I just feel bad that the fan dub isn't getting as much steam as it was before.
