Bullshit. It is quite obvious the author knew about it, and the raging fans purposefully misinterpreted/outright lied about what she had said just to justify their hate-boner. This shit happened before during the whole Kokoro Connect incident involving Eri Kitamura. People outright lied then, so quite frankly, the fact that the only supposed 'proof' that people have now is a single tweet is outright laughable.

Bullshit, the author did make a post on his blog saying that he received the script mfor the final ep but decided not to review it because he trusted the writers not to fuck up, but he deleted it immediately when shit started to hit the fan. Unfortunately for him it was archived, so now him suddenly going "oh yeah I was totally involved in the writing for the last episode, please buy the BDs" just reeks of gunpoint damage control.

Giving girls traumatic experiences is hilarious, according to the manga's author
>>
>>143848683
They're right, you know.

I mean most young boys/girls have traumatic experiences, and a good amount of the time the situation could be funny to others watching.

That's why the show is great. If you don't enjoy Machi bullying you can't enjoy the show. If you do, you can't not enjoy it unless you get caught up in some silly shit like "the ending ruined the whole show because it didn't go like I thought it would".
>>
>>143848891
I really doubt an author would risk not checking the sole anime original episode of their show just because "they're pros I'm not".
>>
>>143848904
Please, if they ever felt like doing a second season they could easily have Machi waking up the next morning and going "You know what? I changed my mind, I still want to go to the city." and have another 12 episodes of Miko bullying.

>>

Of course, but the damage is already done. Going into damage control weeks later when nobody cares anymore is not going to change the opinion of the average otaku, especially when the reception was so negative towards the end. The mangaka at least had the ace in the hole of "Hey, wasn't my fault w" but now they're basically pinning the blame on themselves now too, essentially shitting on themselves.

I did like the bullying at the beginning when it was indeed framed as comedic, the problem is that it just kept escalating and becoming more and more mean-spirited, and no the ending didn't ruin the show for me because I stopped giving a fuck about it after the supermarket ep, when it was clear the writers stopped giving a fuck

The whole point of the show is pushing the bullying further and further. Establishing some arbitrary limit to what is okay and what's too much is fagottry beyond all boundaries. The only limit should be "we legally can't show this on TV". Anything lower would be the writers pussyig out.

If there are people who feel uncomfortable with corresponding sections, it's my responsibility. I am sorry.
Sure, it says "I was at the meetings, I'm sorry" but it doesn't contradict anything said previously.

Kuma Miko fucked up in a couple places. Mostly in that the manga makes the bullying scenes very brief, with the humor focused more on Machi's ignorance than the actual bullying. The anime fucked this up by focusing on the bullying itself and dragging the scenes out.

They also swapped the order of Hibiki's appearance for some reason. Originally Machi has her mall freakout over her clothes first, which prompts Yoshio to ask Hibiki to take her shopping for new clothes. This showed that Yoshio actually does care about how Machi feels. The anime swapped these events, removing this characterization for Yoshio. I guess they wanted to shill the clothing brand earlier or something.

Studio went anime original for the last couple episodes yet still chose to actually end with the manga chapter where Machi gives up on going to the city (For now). They also dragged out and amped up the bullying and Machi's anxiety which killed the humor and ruins the tone of the ending making it come across as a darker/more depressing scene than it was in the manga. Also, fuck them for fucking up the Amazon joke.

Honestly in my opinion the Director was the real problem but honestly this whole thing would have blown over and been forgotten quickly but the writer fucked up and started deleting his social media accounts and an IP address that just so coincidentally happened to be from the writers area just happened to try to delete the series from his wiki page coincidentally at the same time as he was deleting social media accounts. You can insult them all you want, that still wouldn't convince them to pay the studio money.

You remind me of Miyamoto complaining that Japanese audiences are not entertained by his games lately. That he blames the gamers for not buying his game titles.
That shit doesn't work, you are suppose to appeal to your customers, if the customers are not interested, it is not the customer's fault.

Welp, guess I'll watch this.
This season's shit anyway.
>>
>>143853217
The problem is that they liked it at first, then changed their minds for a reason that they liked the show for earlier. Makes no fucking sense. It's like gundamfags wouldn't buy the latest show because robots fight in it.
>>
>>143853395
It's almost as if the mood of the show changed through its run and people didn't like the direction it was taking
>>
>>143853217
This is what we're dealing with, gentlemen. Assblasted otakus that not only want the industry to appeal more and more to them but legitimately justifies online rioting over some 30 minutes of their time and threats to the careers of people they refuse to give money to.
Anime is no longer a place for even the slightest of form of free creative expression. Everything must pander to the customer alone.

I don't give a shit if they're Japanese or not but this shit will ruin any artform anywhere. If that's what the "majority" of /a/ wants, then /a/ is more than brain-dead.
>>
>>143853395
Nip interest in the series actually began to drop off around the department store shilling episode and then started plummeting with the commercial episode. The last episode was really just the last straw.
>>
>>143853314
That's really bad. Did that beat out Valverave's final episode?
>>
>>143853467
>You need support things you thought were awful in order to preserve creative freedom.

With the way the industry works that would just tell them to make more of what you didn't like. They already work to cater to their audiences tastes. They're a business interested in making money.
>>
>>143853467
The anime industry is nothing but pandering.
>>
>>143853395
Thing is, showing her encountering adversity and coming back is good.
Showing her being attacked over and over and whimpering back, not so good.
Showing her going to the city and losing, never to return... you may as well have hit her with a truck.

61.% for Valverave ending, so VVV wins for being worse.

Since when was it EVER about creative expression? You are talking out of your ass. Underground artists don't get to have 2.5million USD to make a 1 cour anime.
>>
Was it really that bad?
How dark is it?

From what I gather I feel like she just decides to not go in to the city because shes autismo, but that seems like it could be played off fine.
>>
>>143853774
She didn't win. She won a special award for her performance.
>>
>>143848683
I thought that was the anime staff's fault.
>>
>>143853806
>From what I gather I feel like she just decides to not go in to the city because shes autismo, but that seems like it could be played off fine.
She had actual hallucinations. She was suffering from medically defined delirium.
>>
I really enjoyed this show up until the last episode. I didn't find the ending as offensive as others but I did feel like it took it too far. If there had been an OVA or a final episode where she decided not to give up on going to the city then I really don't think I would have had an issue with it, in fact I was waiting until the very last second for a scene of her changing her mind again. It almost felt like the show was missing an episode once I finished it. Still if you disregard the final episode and look at the show all together it was still a 7/10, very cute and funny.
>>
>>143853806
It wasn't MEANT to be dark, but they really dropped the ball and fucked up the tone by extending the bullying scenes, Yoshio's comments, and other small alterations. They were trying to make it another gag but it really doesn't come across that way.
>>
>>143853875
The bullying was fun.

>Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of her nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. She had won the victory over herself. She loved Kumade village.

>You need to threaten people's careers when things deviate slightly from how it works
From the way the fans are reacting, that's the message the studio will get, I'll place money on it. Even if you didn't like it, it still is not justification for online riots, is it?

>>143853805
All art forms, no matter how money-grubbing, have a degree of creative freedom. Even bloody Hollywood has it. Look at your own ass before you shit on others.

>>143853664
And you want more of the brain-dead adaptations it's been churning out? Something a little different shouldn't be too much, should it?
>>
>>143853790
Did you miss Natsu's moral dilemma and how he chooses the selfish option and then just acts like everything's peachy for the rest of that epilogue?
>>
>>143853939
>And you want more of the brain-dead adaptations it's been churning out?
I didn't say that. You're jumpier than the otaku you're criticizing.
>>
>>143853972
Yeah, I probably am. What did you say then? Any points I should take?
>>
>>143853806
>that seems like it could be played off fine.
Could, but didn't. Not due to oversight or anything, it seems like it was deliberately ended in a way which made it seem a terminal end.

Machi went to the city for a idol contest which she was already nervous about. Fear and panic and delirium set in and eventually, even though she managed to perform successfully, she thought people were literally throwing rocks at her.
She runs home and cries to the bear, vowing to never ever think about going outside the village ever again. She's later seen giddily happy about not having to know anything about anything, let alone Intaneto Saito who delivers packages.

Then there was that completely fucked up bit where Yoshio talks about how Machi is a sacrifice for the town, and later mentioning that he actually has had rocks thrown at him before.

The rest of the show went from "lol bullying" to "hey now", but the last ep was plain what the fuck.
>>
>>143854098

The ending was a deliberate fuck you to the author from the anime staff for bullying Machi in the manga. The manga makes fun of hicks and Tohoku bumpkins in the same way Hard Gay made fun of faggots.

The anime ending is delicious if you love suffering, but it was also hard love for Machi to tell the manga author to fuck off.

>All art forms, no matter how money-grubbing, have a degree of creative freedom. Even bloody Hollywood has it. Look at your own ass before you shit on others.
If you want creative freedom you should look for it in an Original anime. That is not what Adaptations are for. Adaptations are the antithesis of creative freedom.
>>
>>143853872
No one was offended by it, if you read the thread you can see that pretty much agrees it was just a cause of over-the-line, the whole "lol offended" is just a narrative that contrarians and /v/-tier fedoras are trying to set up to deflect criticism of the show

Lots of people were offended by the ending, that is why it has had such a massive backlash. I'm not trying to say that that makes the ending okay just that I was not as upset about it as others. People felt offended by the behavior of characters and how they treated Miko. If people were not offended by the ending then the backlash would not have been as bad, however the ending would have seemed shitty.
>>
>>143854608
Or maybe, just maybe people legitimately didn't like the ending because it was shit, and stared bitching about how it was shit and the studio went overzealous witht the damage control.

Stop this "lol the only people who didn't like then ending were easily offended tumblrnormiesjwcucks" nonsense already

Tons. But there is just something really special about taking a cute little kitty cat and throwing it off a cliff into a lake watching it screach and squirm in agony. Then once it miraculously swims its way to shore, as it catches it's breathe you pet it gently and lovingly just throw it back in again, causing the cat to give up and just drown.

10/10

Fuck did you even read my post? The ending was shit, of course that is true however a large portion of the negative backlash was a result of people taking offense from the final episode. The way that Miko was treated upset and OFFENDED lots of people, this can be seen in online reviews and complaints about the ending. This does not mean and in no fucking way did I even imply it meant that the ending was not shit or that the only issue was people being oversensitive. I don't know what those Japanese expected from a weird seinen adaptation that aired at an 11pm slot. It's not the studio's fault that they mistook the actual appeal of this series for something else nor is it reasonable for them to smear shit over it for weeks on end if they hated it.

Basically
>entire series revolves around machi's desire to stop being a hick and go to high school in the city
>she knows comically little about the modern world
>also extremely socially anxious and has an intense bumpkin complex
>she gets traumatized repeatedly after attempts to do simple things like use a modern rice cooker or go shopping in a mall
>that's okay though because she's learning and not giving up
>all of a sudden she has to enter an idol contest in the city
>this means having to do kagura in front of a couple of hundred people she's never met before
>starts having vivid hallucinations about city people throwing rocks at her
>bails but comes back after a change in heart
>terrified, but manages to shut out the bad thoughts and get through her performance
>the second she's done the hallucinations of stoning come back in full force even though the crowd is cheering for her
>she's absolute wreck when she gets home, moreso than any other point in the show and outright gives up on her dream
>bear is like "thats okay you dont have to think about anything anymore"
>credits start playing and she's mentally regressed to the level of a 5-year-old
