I can't even bring myself to start following the manga again, let alone watch a 13ep adaptation of the worst arc of the series

its actually pretty good. its not super shounenshit. it has a big fighting arc where the lead characters go fight some Noah but it leads up to it.
I'd recommend it highly Dgrayman. the anime has a lot of filler in the first 50 episodes, past that it isn't so bad.
