Well crap, yes, that would've been easier. If it was so simple why didn't he do it himself, then? I guess I just assumed it had to be done the more complicated way.
Anyhow, I'm not sure it's worth a whole new rerelease to correct, though someone's welcome to do that if they want. I'd rather have slightly better subs at that rate.

What they did with Close and Shut was great, both fell and stood up in completely different ways. I still fondly remember both of them.
Lock was entertaining the time he was the main villain, not as good as the other two but decent.
Dyspear and the robots were pretty boring though, I will give you that. It is one of the reasons I loved Dyspear not being the final boss.

Close was my favorite in my case. The episode where he first died left a big impression of me, I was glad when he came back and trashed the cures in the first second.
I loved all his battles with Flora, how he made her despair and became angrier each time she surpassed different ordeals.

Lets not go so far, there are tons of main villains in Precure who do nothing but sit, order around, have a few worlds and then are defeated without problem. Its been a problem since FW that few seasons like Suite have managed to avoid.
Which is why I liked she not taking the place of last boss since it would have been more of the same.

I was not only talking about Noise, Ako's dad was also fairly entertaining while he had the seat. The main villain thing was done pretty well in Shuite
Noise was probably the best final boss in Precure, Close is a close second if we consider him and not Dyspear and after that there are few interesting ones, maybe someone like Moebius could take the third place, he wasn't particularly excelling but he was fairly interesting in my opinion.

Siren and Trio the Minor knew that the G-clefs were inside the cures and that they were needed, and Siren thought they were still in the Cure Modules when she threw them in the sea. Then presumably some time after 14, the fake clefs are baked into the Score because it's ready to go for Siren by 21 (though never tested). It's almost like there's a missing episode with some sort of plan to plant them there or secret protection for the cures in case they got them stolen. That would've been enough to close this loop, really.

I know this general must have heard this question a thousand times, but: rate the seasons from overall best to worse? Trying to gauge which one to bringe watch next.
Finished Heartcatch months ago, thought it was pretty solid but didn't care for the victim of the week format. Did like Banchou and camera girl though since they became recurring.
Happiness charge had a good start and neat art style (sans sameface), but it just DRAGGED on and on for the last ten episodes.
Finishing up Fresh and Smile. Fresh was neat, but the animation's atrocious and when you get down to it, it's just the Love and Setsuna show. Smile's got aesthetics on its side and I'm warming up to it despite its formatand I'd be in love with the villains if they weren't actually fairies

Of what's left, I'd personally rate GoPri > Suite > Yes5/GoGo > FW/MH > Doki > SS, but I don't think that will match with your taste.
I'd actually suggest Doki for you next. It's actually a decent series with a "strong" lead(in terms of power, not character), no VotW, a distinct overarching plot and good visuals. How much you love it will hinge on how much you love Mana, but there is also a secret second way to enjoy Doki that you might discover even if you don't like her.
You could probably also try dipping into Yes5 as well. It's not as ugly as Fresh, but you seem to have a decent tolerance for that. It's probably the most sentai of all the series, and that can be fun in its own way as they rotate focus between the characters. No shame in tapping out neither, but I rarely hear about anyone dropping Yes5 midway through.
And you shouldn't save FW, MH and SS all for last. At least try FW soon, as you won't want to watch all three back to back.

That was the second somewhat decent episode of Maho in a row. Seeing Mirai have enough of their shit reminded me of a common Sailor Moon theme where none of the girls (or at least Usagi) wanted any part of this fighting nonsense. But they weren't clear at all about how much time passed between episodes despite them making a big deal out of how long they searched for Ha-chan, which wasn't good. The animation of Felice's transformation and fighting made up for it though, especially how surprised she was at her newfound strength. And also making Lizard have only four bones left with the genie watching over everything adds at least a bit more depth than the villains had previously. It also shows that the original three can be revived at any point in the future.

I really liked these guys. The first season still has some of the best examples of most of thecommon precure writing conventions that are still being recycled today, but we don't see a lot of comic relief bad guys anymore.

I just finished Go! Princess Precure. Did Haruka come out better or worse than the others?

Well I was talking more about just within Precure itself, so the big two are the main themes of fighting and friendship which FW I still think does the best out of them all, with a bunch of cool long dramatic fight scenes and a really believable and beautiful growing friendship. And then there's the smaller parts which are thing like a villain redemption arc, or a 6th ranger, for example. I guess the comic relief bad guy thing has sort of evolved into just the generals being more rounded instead of just "bad guys."
I'm not really qualified to answer your question about its influence elsewhere, but I think FW itself was probably heavily inspired by the toku series of the time, and whatever influence it had probably was already being had.

They're not even bad guys, really. And not even mooks since they never actually fight the cures. They're really just comic relief, but they don't really even do much to tell the story around the boy either.
