Down here in Louisiana rice is pretty much a staple and eaten with every meal too.
>>
I've been eating rice+egg every day for a few months now and I'm not bored of it. It's very simple, but the texture and flavor are so on point and I can just feel the pure happiness love energy flowing into me when I eat it, like magic. A perfect food, really.
>>
>>143595177
It's their version of bread.
How many breads have you eaten in your life?
>>
>>143596788
Traditionally the super poor would eat a sort of potato. Only the better off could afford rice.
>>
>>143597091
They do it in Japan, too, haven't you ever heard of mayora? It's good for omurice, too, helps keep it together and you can put something spicy in it to make it even better.

I don't think you can get sick of staples. Rice, taters, corn and the like.

I'd eat rice everyday if I wanted to, its a really solid food. Plus, they eat it with side dishes most of the time to spice it up. Maybe I'll buy a rice cooker sometime soon and do that thing where you only spend $100 a month on groceries because you just buy 25 pound bags of rice for yourself.
>>
>>143595279
Do explain, how do I cook that?
>>
Rice+sauce/gravy is really good.
>>
>>143595177
That's like asking if people get sick of eating bread every day. Or any staple grain for that matter.
>>
>>143597868

To say nothing of it's cost/energy efficiency, this simple meal is just plain delicious, honestly. Have you ever tried making some plain rice, then tossing an egg on top and whipping it up? The color and shine it gives the rice is pretty cool too, since each little grain of energy is shiny and golden now. You can make it fancy and throw anything else in there I guess, but there's already magic inside a bowl with rice and egg in it.

Unlike another staple food, potatoes, rice is actually very versatile. You can add so many flavorants to rice while it's cooking to change its flavor. I'm a fan of a little olive oil and salt, but you can add sesame oil, peppers, Gordon Ramsay uses star anice and many, many other things. You can even opt for yellow, red or brown rice if white rice bores you.

And even then, recently European cuisine has gained popularity in the Nihons so they probably eat things like potatoes and spaghetti there too nowadays.

Well no, it doesn't really cook the egg. The rice in the bowl isn't hot enough for that so it retains the reserved raw egg flavor, definitely doesn't have that richer cooked egg taste. It's not a particularly flavorful dish, very simple. But it's still a good flavor, and the mixture is what makes it. The texture you get from mixing it up real nice (1 egg per 1 cup dry rice) is sort of oatmeal-ish. There's a real visual appeal to it too. Shiny golden goodness.
>>
>>143598567

>WALA, a quick meal.
you can put the whole egg into the rice cooker with the rice
and you get hard boiled egg
that way is quicker and healthier than raw egg with soy sauce
>>

Everybody used to eat wild grasses anon, even your ancestors. Rice, wheat, corn, and quinoa were only grown so people could live through the winter. Eating veggies is just a fad european nobles started (they were eating too much meat and it started to hurt their body but at the same time they couldn't just eat grass like everybody else, I mean they're nobles) and the poor imitated them.

By a large and complex industrial process, which includes the breeding, raising, keeping and disposition of chickens; retrieval, cleaning, sorting and quality control of eggs, and other ancillary aspects such as facilities management, packing, storage and shipping.

The laying of eggs is a very small, though crucial, part of the process, which as a whole is more sensitive and complex than many foods you would consider industrial due to the irregularity and sensitivity of chickens and their eggs.

>$100 a month on groceries because you just buy 25 pound bags of rice for yourself.

I have a plastic, microwaveable $2 rice cooker, and I buy 20lbs bags of rice at walmart.

I spend about $25 a month on food. I also buy canned soups and canned vegetables to go into the rice.

I'm healthy, and I get plenty of flavor variety from different soup flavors and cheap, long lasting seasonings like garlic salt and pepper. I never exceed my money limit per month, because I don't have the money to do so, and it works out fine.

I even get eggs sometimes.

As for the thread topic, Japanese rice is quite different from the rice we have in the USA.

Japanese rice is really sticky so it's eatable with chopsticks and can be made into sushi and riceballs, I think it tastes nicer too.
