For an eroge MC from the early 2000s, I do think he's rather well written.
Even now, part of his struggle with his own sense of self due to a traumatic event, his desire to fill what he believes he's lacking with the desire to fight for justice, and the moral and personal struggle he would find himself in once he tries going down the path of a hero of justice are still some very neat aspect of his I've hardly found in anime related characters.
