Taboo or not, it takes a skilled author to pull something like that. It has been seen for quite a while for a much older man with a relationship with a much younger girl as being somewhat more aggressive. There can be and was in many cases love but the balance of expectations to fantasy is tough. While it wasn't unusual to see it at all in much earlier times, I can't see the relationships being quite as cozy as Amira's situation. In contrast an older woman with a young boy is seen as more nurturing and loving if not that we really feel envious towards the guy, even today. One good example is Tommen and Margaery in Game of Thrones when she snuck into his room and seduced him. Flip that around and that would get creepy.
It could work but again, would be a hard one to tackle.

Otoyomegatari can deal with some interesting relationships because of its historical setting and Mori's commitment to it so if there's anyone who could portray an older man with a much younger girl I think it would be Mori or someone with similar sensibilities.
Btw Leon the Professional teased a sexual undertone to the relationship between Portman and Reneau's characters and a deleted scene implied it even more.
