I think waking up Casca from her stupor is incredibly cruel and selfish. She can, after a sort, live as she is - finding simplistic and infant like joy in various things.

SK isn't really deus ex since we know that Guts survives the Eclipse. SK is outside the laws of causality so he can change the predetermined and he knows about the God Hand and there machinations. It's not far-fetched for him to interrupt the ceremony and save Guts. It makes sense for his character and within the story.
Like you said though, Puck certainly isn't deus ex since he's been healing Guts since the beginning and announced the healing properties his kind has.
