I really like the yandere archetype. But it seems like every manga or anime with a yandere girl has a shit story or devolves into edgelord shit like pick related. Why is this?

It's difficult to make a character that's willing to kill everyone that looks at their love interest the wrong way without it either being edgy, or using it for comedy instead of an actual relationship (e.g. Ayase in Oreimo)
