I have to stay awake tonight and since we got THREE new scanlated chapters of Rokudenashi Blues, thought we may as well have a delinquent thread. Hope everything is going well with my delinquent manga reading bros.
Will start off by dumping Rokudenashi Blues and then we'll see how things go. As always, complain about dropped series and no scans/rows for some series etc.
A few things about Rokudenashi Blues.
It has the best artwork of any weekly series I have read so far.
It is almost certainly the most commercially succesful delinquent manga as far as manga sales alone go (I'd argue Crows might have more influence and lasting power).
I don't think this is confirmed but the characters Moritaka Mashiro in Bakuman might be based partially on Masanori Morit; similar names, known art prodigies, both made debuts at the age 17.
RokuBlues managed to hang in the top 3 of WSJ during it's Golden period which is impressive.
And probably the most irritating thing of all, the whole thing is available in French and has been for ages. You don't know how lucky you are France, you have all the goddamn delinquent manga available in your own language.

Speaking of Morita manga, I'll mention again that based Delinquentanon scanlated the 3rd chapter of Beshari-Gurashi (which is based off a chapter in Suberu o Itowazu/Setting up to Fail). I don;t he's picking it up regularly but I'll read anything which has Morita's godly artwork in it.

I'm not sure but it's probably something to do with France being the biggest reader of manga outside of Japan, they've had manga there for ages and ages. There's a site somewhere which is specifically for French subs of live action yankii manga adaptations. The lucky bastards.

I'm reading Rookies and I fucking love it.
I also found out that the same mangaka also wrote Rokudenashi Blues but I didn't like that as much as Rookies. I only read a few chapters at the start of Rokudenashi blues and it just didn't pull me in like the start of Rookies.
Is Rokudenashi Blues a slow burn kind of manga and it's just that the start is weak?

I liked RB from the beginning but it gets better as time goes on. As far as the scans go we haven't even got close to the real main part of the story in so far as only 1 of the 3 remaining 'four heavenly kings' has been revealed. it didn;t start getting really high weekly rankings until a bit later into it's story as well.
Rookies is great, probably my third favourite baseball manga. I must have re-read Rookies like 4 times by now, it isn;t even that amazing but there's something about it which makes it very re-readable.

Damn, I thought it was fully scanlated because there were 145 chapters done but turns out its got 42 volumes, holy fuck.
I like long running delinquent manga so I'll definitely read RB at some point though, especially since the mangaka is so god-tier at making you care about characters,

It's sad that so many delinquent series are in the 20+ volume range. We're going to be dead by the time all of BBH is done. But that might be the longest at 48 volumes and Chameleon might be second longest at 47 volumes.

Some delinquent manga are pretty much SoL comedies, as in weak overarching stories and your day-to-day life.
I don't have anything to say beyond that I've wanted to get into this sort of manga/anime because of the Kunio series and that from what I've briefly read and watched of it Osu!! Karatebu seems like an underrated fun series. The art is technically pretty bad but knows how to look funny and interesting and that's what matters
The OVAs make the characters seem less like bad guys though which I don't like

Haven't read Osu!! is a long time, I'm glad it's still getting scanlated though.
Just checked on MU and it appears Clover is now finished. The scanlations for volume 31 starteda few weeks ago and the whole series is 43 volumes. Could this mean we might actually see the whole thing done in our lifetime? God I hope so, I really like Clover even if it is more Crows.

I also like Osu!! Karatebu, I get a similar vibe from it as Otokojuku in it's early chapters. It's probably because they are both manga that started off as gag manga and then became shounen fighters.

I wanna read all of it one day. It seems to start off totally comedic in the most puerile way possible but then it starts having more serious characterization moments while still keeping the ridiculousness. That sounds exactly like my kind of thing.
I was sad that the OVAs were so censor-happy, trying to make the protags characters seem more like heroes than good-for-nothings, because the production values were pretty good.

I just really like scribbly loose no-fucks-given art so Karate Bu appeals to me more. But I know Otokojuku is the more popular series in the west by far.
As far Japan I dunno; Karate Bu was popular enough to get a live action film as far as I remember.

Otokojuku is probably more famous in Japan as well, used to rank fairly close to top 3 in WSJ, got two sequels, an anime and a pachinko game.
It got a live action movie as well but don't look too much into that, there appears to be a weirdly large amount of delinquent series which get live action movies. Fucking Gaki Rock, which was a one volume oneshot got a live action adaptation. Who is in charge of these decisions?

The group is called Crazy Delinquents and Shit. Not sure if they will end up finishing it or not. They might have been the people who said they would definitely do until the end of the Onizuka arc and then see from there though, I'm not certain. At this point any new chapter is better than nothing.

The Crows OVA and the Rokublues OVA are just chapters from the manga done one to one, the soundtracks from groups like the Street Beats and the Blue Hearts is pretty good, Japanese punk rock is great.

I'm once again not reading this because I'm in no mental state for this but looking at the art I like how it's more realistic than most manga but still has cartoony expressions and doesn't feel stiff at all. Kinda reminds me of Gon in that regard where the animals were realistic and painstakingly detailed but made wacky-ass (yet not generic anime-looking) faces. Odd comparison I know but I read far less manga than I watch anime.
Meanwhile the opposite to me would be something like Crying Freeman. So serious it becomes unintentionally silly and a huge step down from Lone Wolf & Cub as far as the more serious & less wackyzany Mad Bull 34-like Kazuo Koike works go.
It takes a few chapters for Morita's girls to not look so odd.
God, Morita's art is super good. I dunno what it is about it that makes it so appealing. I've been thinking about reading Rookies simply because I love his style.

Give in and stay up all night to read it like I am doing.
And yeah one of things I like about RB is that even though the art is more realistic there are a lot of shounen comedy elements in it which don't feel out of place.
Also in fairness, even though they were all written by Kazuo Koike, Crying Freeman, LW&C and Mad Bull 34 all had different artists. Goseki Kojima's art in LW&C is GOAT tier along with Morita with RokuBlues, Tetsuo Hara with Hokuto no Ken and Muira with Berserk. Hara is probably my favourite but I am a huge HnK fanboy (as is Morita since he was Hara's assistant when he started out). Ryoichi Ikegami is also godlike but his art is a little better in Sanctuary than anything else I reckon.

Some people here really like the Joe anime while others prefer the manga. They're different in a bunch of ways with both seasons of the anime being a bit more in-your-face and theatric in their execution. Dezaki added a bunch of super-dramatic detailed shots that were never in the manga along with some extra scenes; Joe finally making up his mind about picking up boxing was far much more of a "FUCK YEAH" moment in the Dezaki version than it was in the manga, with Joe dramatically running back towards the prison after escaping and then changing his mind as a more optimistic and hot-blooded version of the theme song played.
I prefer the anime, but I understand why some people prefer the manga. My main issue with the latter is that I'm not the biggest fan of Chiba's art; I've read a lot of old manga and I love the old art of people like Nagai, Tezuka and Ishinomori but Chiba's drawings for Joe just don't really click with me the way both of the anime styles do.

It's not like Crows anymore though, it bracnhes out and oes it's own thing I believe, it's still nothing impressive but enjoyable nonetheless. Honestly in 2016 people can no longer bitch and moan about delinquent series not getting any love, there are so many already completed and so many being actively worked on. It's not a matter of what we get, it's a matter of both quality of the series and that people don't care enough to make threads whenever a new chapter for whatever series gets updated.

Good news in terms of art is that if you're willing to put up with 300 chapters of Otokojuku's difficult art you'll be rewarded with a huge improvement in its sequel.

For me the most appealing thing about Morita's art is the facial expression. They are so much better than every other manga artist expression and are better by a wide margin. Take someone like Hiroaki Samura who people cite as excellent artists, the excels in detail and is probably the best at depth perception and accurate art at odd angles, but he can't convey the same level of facial expression of Morita, and Morita is no slouch as far as detailed artwork goes as well.
Some of Takehiko Inoue's work comes close to it.

I want to read Mad Bull but I always end up arguing over stuff like that whenever I get into it. I feel that far too often old-school anime/manga fans are unable to realize when something is intentionally campy and instead dismiss it as "objectively bad, unintentionally funny". As if Japanese people as a race are somehow incapable of self awareness.

There are still elements of it which are like Crows (Hammer Head are basically The Front Of The Arament for example) but it does enough things differently that it's worth reading in it's own right. The characters are totally different which is nice.
And even though we are getting a lot more chapters of things, I think there's a lot still uncompleted and even more with nothing. My desire to read High Teen Boogie is likely to go unfufilled it seems, if I was to give one example.

I've heard a lot about how Dezaki was responsible for making the anime better than the manga but I am skeptical a little bit. For me, Ashita no Joe is objectively the best manga ever made, I am kind of worried about the anime adaptation not living up to it, although I know what it's like it won't ruin it

Yeah I doubt you'd like it as much in that case and every post you've seen saying the anime is better was probably mine. They're pretty different in their execution so it's best to get into the anime expecting a Dezaki anime and not a perfect adaptation of your favorite manga.
It is my favorite Dezaki anime from what I've seen because I really like how weird and experimental the visuals got in the first season and I also really, really like the story. With something like Cobra I'm mainly just watching it for the execution and I don't care much what's going on but with Joe it's totally different, it's really one of the best-written action shonens of all time.
Just got up to chapter 34 of RokuBlues.
How long do these Duwang-tier scans go on for?

I have to agree that recently there has been a nice steady stream of scanlated chapters from various series which is great.
And also, most of everything is shit. I think the feeling of wanting more delinquent manga scanlated is just a longing for something you can't have. I doubt I will read many delinquent manga that are better than Crows/RokuBlues/BR/KKOW but still, I really want to read them. If I had to pick three I most want to read they'd be Bad Boys, Otokogumi and Shonan Bakusozoku, I could live without the rest. I'd also say Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daishou but that is literally never going to get scanlated, I am sure of it.

Oddly enough even though I think AnJ is the best manga ever, I think HnK is my actual favourite manga. I will eventually watch it, it's just that I don't have any time for 24+ episode series anymore and reading manga is much faster than watching anime. From what I hear, I think it's considered Dezaki's best work.

What's your favorite semi-delinquent manga? That is, shonen which incorporates delinquency as a minor element, like YYH or virtually anything Otokojuku.

So do I, low riders seem like a really cool theme. As much as I like KKOW and mindless delinquent manga, Bosozoku stuff is nice because there's a bit of underlying story and progression in them, characters wanting to be part of a gang, getting a car/bike, modifying it, and so on.

As for your placements, and not that far off against them, seem pretty resonable other than Angel Densetsu in my opinon, would love to hear what other Anons have to say though.

I think I've said before that I find most of Angel Densetsu to be as funny as KKOW, but that might be only me. Also I don't even know if SJG is all available to buy in English, I thought it was available all in French (again, the bastards).
Noted another typo, last title should be Ai To Makoto, missing the last O off. Also is Mabudachi Jinga available in English, I've only found Spanish scans for it. You could also put (+ sequel) next to Kamen Teacher if you wanted.

Oh fuck you're right, I forgot that I read it in spanish. Shit I should remove it completely off the chart that being the case. But having that hole there would suck balls, ideally none of the tiers would have any holes but can't always get what I want I guess. Not sure if I understood you though, to be clear, the Tiers don't represent how "delinquent" a manga is if that's what you're thinking, Tiers simply mean how good or bad the manga is to me. If you're implying that King Golf is awful then I can believe you because I dropped it pretty damn fast.

King Golf is a sports manga but set in a delinquent school and has delinquent fights and shit in it, they go on about it a little bit. And I thought the tiers were about how good the manga was which is why I said put it in low tier, King Golf does absolutely nothing original other than be a manga about Golf, MC is standard overpowered Shounen fighter MC, humour is subpar, it appears to be endless tournament arcs etc. But like I said, fuck it, if someone would scanlate it I'd still read it for some reason.
It's like how I won't complain about Sakigake Otokojuku being low down in the list because even though I really like it, objectively it isn't very good.
Last chapter from volume 1, chapter 8. I'm deciding between dumping volume 2 since it builds on a lot of what happened in volume 1 and ends at a better point than volume 1 does or stopping to watch some shit for the rest of the night instead since I kind of have a feeling that most of the people in the thread might have already read RokuBlues.

I was considering moving Crows and Kiku up respectively, without moving Ocha Nigosu or Angel Densetsu but that would leave the Middle tier with 2 ugly blank spots instead of 1 ugly blan stop. Alternatively to fix that I could move up QP, Crows and Worst gaiden stories because they're basically the same as the 3 main series so it's all the same really. But I could only move 2 due to space unless I lowerd something from the Mid tier to Lower tier to make room for those 3. From that I'd end up with either 2 or 3 holes in the lower tier, fuck me if only there were a few more scanlated delinquent manga.
I just found out about a mangaka who did a lot of bousouzoku manga, Furukawa Yuu. It seems like he's pretty obscure, though a couple of his manga were adapted to OVA.

Just finished Kongou Banchou the other day and holy shit was it fun.When he punched his brother around the entire planet, my dick became diamonds. Also, gay batman was the best character.
In other news, does anyone remember that one manga Guren 5? It got a chapter translated a while back, the first one I believe, then never continued after that. Then later on I checked online, and apparently it only had 15 chapters or so. I was kinda disappointed because I really like Blood Lad's character designs, and the story seemed generic, but enjoyable enough.
